Position Description

The School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a Lecturer, Full-Time Temporary (non-tenure-track) position, to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Computer Science. This position is a 9-month service period with possibility of renewal based on funding availability. Anticipated start date will be September 16, 2021.

Specific teaching needs include but are not limited to: school undergraduate and graduate students. The appointment is contingent upon adequate enrollment.

About the University of Washington Tacoma:

The University of Washington Tacoma, one of three UW campuses, is an urban undergraduate and graduate level campus that is changing the face of its region economically, culturally, and architecturally. The School of Engineering and Technology, formerly Institute of Technology, was created in 2001 through a public/private partnership to address the critical industry demand for baccalaureate and masters level computing and engineering professionals. The School's 800+ students are currently enrolled in four undergraduate degree programs: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Systems, Computer Science and Systems, and Information Technology, in addition to a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Systems, a professional master's degree in Cybersecurity and Leadership, in partnership with UW Tacoma's Milgard School of Business, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Our MS in Computer Science and Systems is also expanding by adding interdisciplinary, data centric tracks that leverage the research strengths of other academic units on campus, particularly in Data Science, GIS, Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity and Cyber-Physical Systems. An MS program in Electrical and Computer Engineering is also in development.

Job Description:

The School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Lecturer, Full-time Temporary position for its Computer Engineering and systems, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science programs for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in computer engineering and computer science including

  • Principles of Operating Systems,
  • Computer Architecture,
  • Logic Design,
  • Microprocessors,
  • Embedded Systems,
  • Computer Networks
  • Verilog/VHDL, and
  • Digital System Design

The position requires both on-site face-to-face as well as online availability for teaching classes. Teaching assignment may include days or evenings. Quality performance will be expected in teaching and service. General responsibilities include: preparing and delivering a course that meets the course description and learning goals; using appropriate teaching strategies and evaluation methods; informing students of all course requirements and providing feedback on a continuing basis; holding regularly office hours; using appropriate technology for the course; providing assessment of ABET student outcomes, and submitting course grades by deadline.


Candidates should have a Master's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field and 2 or more years’ experience teaching similar courses at the university level. The successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with the ability to engage with students from a culturally diverse population.
