Job Details
Bates College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in 20th-century U.S. Latinx History, with a start date of August 2021. The position is appointed in the History Department, with an expectation for service and teaching in the Latin American and Latinx Studies Program. Candidates with demonstrated success in teaching and supporting students from historically underrepresented and marginalized populations are encouraged to apply. We prefer scholars whose research and teaching focus on gender, the American West, and/or borderlands history, and candidates who are able to teach and advise students interested in Spanish-language archives.

Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year, and advising for majors, minors and senior thesis projects. The successful candidate will teach the survey course of U.S. history since 1900 and participate in the rotation of faculty teaching historical methods as well as a Latin American and Latinx Studies core course. They will also develop a slate of courses that cross-list between the History Department and the Latin American and Latinx Studies Program. Applicants should show a strong commitment to excellence in scholarly research, undergraduate teaching, and the implementation of inclusive pedagogies. ABD will be considered, Ph.D., preferred.
