Statement of the Job:

The University of Maine’s College of Education and Human Development invites applications for an exciting new position as an Associate/Full Professor of Literacy Education in the School of Learning and Teaching. The individual selected for this position will be expected to serve as a member of the Literacy, Language and Culture faculty and also as the Director of the University’s Reading Recovery Program®. Although familiarity with Reading Recovery is preferred, training and registration as a Reading Recovery Trainer will be supported by the University, as these will be required for this position. This is a twelve-month faculty appointment with additional responsibilities as the Reading Recovery Director.  This position will require flexible, extensive evening and weekend work as well as extensive travel both inside and outside of Maine

The major responsibilities and duties of this position will include providing Reading Recovery Teacher Leader Training, overseeing the state of Maine’s Reading Recovery implementation, overseeing Reading Recovery data collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination. This faculty member will also maintain the University Training Center as a resource for the development of Reading Recovery sites and as a focal point for professional development at state, national and international levels. The Reading Recovery Director will participate in international, national, state, university and site level conferences and Reading Recovery trainer activities as required within the international guidelines of roles and responsibilities. This faculty member will also be expected to maintain an active research agenda, teach appropriate courses, advise doctoral students, participate in College and University governance, and collaborate with faculty in the Literacy, Language and Culture Program, School of Learning and Teaching and the College of Education and Human Development.

Qualifications: Required:

  • A Ph.D./Ed.D. in Literacy Education or a closely related discipline. 
  • An outstanding record of scholarly achievement and a history of extramurally funded research commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Maine.  
  • Exceptional and proven leadership abilities. 
  • Evidence of excellent undergraduate and graduate teaching skills. 
  • A commitment to collaborative work with public schools. 
  • Strong quantitative research skills. 
  • Extremely good organizational skills. 
  • A dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • A strong ability to work in a team.
  • Preferred:

      Past experience and familiarity with Reading Recovery programs
