Position Summary:

SEASSI is a national, eight-week intensive language institute that uses communicative and proficiency-based methodology as well as the team-teaching approach for instruction in up to nine Southeast Asian languages annually from mid-June through mid-August. The 2021 SEASSI program will be held from June 14 through August 6 and will be preceded by a staff orientation week from June 7-11, 2021.

Language instructors will be responsible for participating in the SEASSI staff orientation week activities as well as instructor meetings throughout the eight-week program. Under the supervision of the Language Coordinator, instructors will prepare appropriate materials and deliver instruction in their assigned classes, hold office hours, and participate in teacher meetings. With 24 hours' notice, in-class instruction may be observed by the SEASSI Language Director, teacher trainers, or other professionals approved by SEASSI administration and the Language Director.

Some or all languages may be offered in a synchronous remote format for summer 2021. Applicants should be willing to either travel to Madison for in-person classes or work from a remote location, dependent upon the mode of delivery. The mode of delivery (remote or in-person) for all SEASSI classes will be determined at a later date.

In-person SEASSI language classes may include up to two distance students. Instructors will be responsible for ensuring that the quality of instruction offered to SEASSI distance students is as high as that for on-site students (i.e. that distance students are included as full class participants, have access to handouts and other course materials in a timely manner, and have access to the instructor during his/her office hours). The duties of this position are typical of a Teaching Assistant.

Indonesian instructors will teach both SEASSI, Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative (IFLI), and Project Global Officer (Project GO) students, and participate in both SEASSI and IFLI programs.

Diversity and inclusion are primary values for SEASSI and are integral to achieving our strategic goals. We seek candidates with an awareness of and commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion across all spectrums.

This appointment is for summer 2021 only. There is no presumption of reappointment.
