Position Summary:

The position will support various inter-related programmatic initiatives in the area of dementia and caregiver outreach, particularly for the Strength & Resilience Brain Health & Wellness Program. The Strength & Resilience Program translates scientific evidence regarding modifiable risk factors for brain health promotion into a practical, weekly community-based program that focuses on brain health, wellness, and fitness. This position will facilitate development of materials and weekly instruction for the Strength & Resilience Program. The program includes a group physical activity session with exercises tailored to older adults, as well as information on brain health and healthy aging.

The Strength & Resilience Program is part of the Brain Health Equity Initiative, led by Dr. Andrea Gilmore-Bykovskyi, PhD, RN. The Brain Health Equity Initiative represents a commitment to alleviating disparities in brain health by strengthening agency, equity and inclusion for people with and at risk for dementia and their care partners in care and research. The Initiative exists within Dr. Gilmore-Bykovskyi's larger research program which exhibits a high level of productivity and quality work.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

* Associate's degree and a minimum of six months of experience in fitness, health wellness and/or community-based programming required.
* Bachelor's degree in exercise science, health education, adult fitness, physical education, nursing or related field is preferred.
* Nationally Recognized Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor Certification are preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

* At least 6 months of previous experience developing and coordinating fitness, health, wellness or community-based programs and activities, preferably with older adult populations
* A combination of experience and education may be considered.

Additional Information:

* The ideal candidate is proactive, a self-starter, energetic, empathetic, creative and a skilled collaborator with demonstrated experience engaging people from diverse backgrounds in communities, non-profit organizations, and/or academic research.
* Must be competent in technical teaching skills of a variety of group fitness activities, and in the use of a variety of cardiovascular, strength and functional training fitness equipment.
* Must be skilled in lifesaving procedures and instruction; and in supervising, training, evaluating and motivating employees.
* Ability to research and apply evidence-based tenants for brain health promotion, and in development of physical exercises and brain health activities.
* Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, collaborate effectively as a member of a small work group, and communicate diplomatically with internal and external constituents through written and verbal communication required.
* Work environment is highly team-oriented and involves regular small group meetings, joint writing projects, and frequent email communication.
* This person will work primarily at the UW-Madison School of Nursing with other work duties taking place at the Madison Veterans Hospital and UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, both located on Highland Avenue in Madison, WI.
* Position requires occasional travel. Must provide own transportation or meet eligibility criteria for Car Fleet usage.
* Position requires some physical activity (occasional walking, sitting, standing, carrying); frequent talking and hearing; and repetitive motion (typing).
* Applied knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Access), Qualtrics software, and Windows operating system.
* Within 14 days of hire, the candidate must obtain HIPAA and CITI certification by completing the University's electronic training.
* Within 30 days of hire, the candidate must obtain Adult CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.

* A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.

This is a 1 year position with the possibility of renewal if additional funding is available.
