Job Summary

Our open Veteran Services Outreach Services position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to perform detailed analytical work while providing exemplary customer/student services. The Veteran Services Outreach Specialist conducts outreach and engagement activities to current and veteran and military affiliated students; facilitates the Peer Advisors for Veterans Education (PAVE) program and the JC Student Veterans of America student organization; executes communication activities to prospective students, assists in maintaining partnerships with veteran service organizations, and collaborates with the campus community to promote veteran and military-affiliated student success; assists and engages students in the Veteran & Military Resource Center, assists with training and supervision of VA work-study student assistants and PAVE peer mentors; and functions as a VA Certifying Official for Veterans Educational Benefits programs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree + three years' experience as a VA Certifying Official
Experience in customer service
Experience working in an office setting
Experience with computer applications
Experience with peer mentoring
Experience with Microsoft Office programs
Excellent time management skills to effectively manage projects and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and ability to work effectively as a part of the Veteran Services and Records work teams
Knowledgeable of Veteran benefits, services and connections for veterans and military-affiliated persons seeking higher education
Flexibility to pivot from detail-oriented processes to providing accurate and empathetic student services
Good oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and confidentially in one on one and group situations

Preferred Qualifications

Veteran or military-affiliated
Experience with public speaking
Experience working with student organizations
Experience with Banner student information system
Experience with Canvas learning management system
Experience with Microsoft Teams
