Job Summary

Johnson County Community College is looking to fill a full-time faculty position in Anthropology (with emphases listed below). JCCC is located in Overland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansas and part of the greater Kansas City Metro. JCCC is similarly dedicated to creating and maintaining a rich cultural community, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts located on campus.

JCCC is looking for a diverse pool of applicants for a full-time faculty position in the Anthropology department. Full-time faculty and most part-time faculty in this department hold doctorates, and work to strike a balance between teaching and research. Many of our 18,000 students are nontraditional, military veterans, immigrants, international, and first-generation college students. African American, Asian American, and Hispanic student populations are also growing. JCCC is committed to increasing the diversity of our college community.

The successful applicant for this job will teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester. Course load will emphasize Cultural Anthropology but may be expanded to include the applicant’s area of expertise. This person will perform other duties expected of full-time faculty, including maintaining scheduled office hours, developing and revising curriculum, developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department, division, and college meetings, serving on committees, and other duties as assigned. Teaching assignments could be any combination of face-to-face (day or evening), hybrid or online, and are subject to change as needed.

Additional responsibilities:
• Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for students to engage in field research or applied anthropological outreach.
• Participate in the planning and administration of all departmental functions.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in anthropology or graduate degree in a relevant discipline and 18 graduate credit hours in Anthropology and related experience
• Documented successful teaching at the college level
• Ability to synthesize advanced anthropological concepts and relate these to introductory students
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the teaching mission of a comprehensive community college
• Ability to teach in an online learning environment
• Strong verbal, written, and/or visual communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Anthropology
• Recent or on-going research experience
• Demonstrated ability to teach introductory courses in sociocultural anthropology
• Ability to teach courses, which complement the current faculty, including Native Americans, Linguistics, Applied Anthropology, or surveys of Africa, Asia, Europe, Polynesia (not necessarily all of these)
• Demonstrated knowledge of academic culture
