  Description of Position

Houghton College invites applications for a full-time appointment in the Department of Biology at the assistant or associate professor rank starting Fall 2021.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching courses combining ecological/environmental content areas with reductionistic approaches (e.g., ecotoxicology, physiological ecology, behavioral or ecological endocrinology, plant pathology, parasitology, etc.), contributing to the first-year biology sequence and general education curriculum, developing and maintaining a line of research suitable for undergraduates, and advising students.

 

Qualifications

Required qualifications include a PhD in biology or related field by the beginning of the appointment, an interest and willingness to support the online offerings of the college, and the ability to help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experience, with sensitivity to factors that affect our own assessment of others.

 

Preferred qualifications include experience teaching at the undergraduate level and online.

 

Other important qualifications for this position include a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching, a mature Christian faith, and an ability and willingness to integrate their Christian faith into teaching.
