Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties:
This position includes teaching three courses per semester that would include Human-Centered/Industrial Design studio art courses and art foundations courses when required. The Assistant Professor is required to participate in university, college and school committee work, and maintain professional involvement in the field of Human-Centered Design. This is a campus-based position.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
MFA
Discipline / Degree Area:
MFA or MID in Human-Centered Design/Product Design/Industrial Design or related field
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Required Minimum Work Experience:
Previous university/college teaching experience, which could include graduate teaching assistantships. Experience assessing student learning outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Ability to instruct students throughout all stages of design skill and process (sketching, model making, structure, assembly, production methods, problem solving, research, theory, and ethics).
Proficiency with rapid prototyping/manufacturing technology and industrial production practices including assisting students with Computer Aided Design, Laser Cutters, 3D Printers and Computer Numerically Controlled machining projects.
Software expertise with 2D and 3D Modeling/Rendering/CAM, and Adobe Software.
Proficiency in model making and prototype construction using an assortment of materials including wood, metal and plastics and both analogue and digital methodology is also required.
Ability to teach at undergraduate level.
Ability to work with others.
Effective oral and written communication.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with sustainable design practices.
Experience with Rhinoceros Software and Apple platform.
Hands on Experience with Tool Methodologies for Physical Prototypes
Active involvement in design methodology with an innovative design process that promotes research and experimentation through production techniques, form and interaction.
