Job Description:

The Department of Elementary Education and Reading at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for two tenure track positions as Assistant Professor in Elementary Education and Reading with a literacy or related focus beginning Fall 2021. Expectations include, but are not limited to, teaching, research, student advisement, college service, and continuing professional development. We welcome applications from candidates who are skillful at working in a pluralistic society and whose research and practice aims to cultivate an inclusive teacher educator workforce, able to build on cross-disciplinary frameworks/approaches, interested in innovation and collaboration in both research and teaching contexts, and who are interested in contributing in leadership roles in the department and division.

With almost 1,100 students and ten full-time faculty members, the Elementary Education and Reading Department offers a rich and diverse learning experience in an intimate setting for its undergraduate program. Our department also houses two online graduate literacy programs ( ) that have grown exponentially in recent years. The Department has a strong history of excellence in teaching, developing rich field-based programmatic experiences for teacher education undergraduates, and building college and community partnerships. Duties include but not limited to: contributing to growing and evolving programs in a variety of capacities including online and/or face-to-face teaching literacy education/methods courses in both graduate (B-12) and undergraduate teacher education programs (B-6), general education courses, methods of differentiated curriculum and assessment and literacy methods courses, courses focused on diversity and equity in teacher education, and other courses to meet department needs; curriculum development, collaborating with colleagues on programmatic structural revisions and program evaluation, instructional design, and working closely with undergraduate and graduate students; having regular placement in the rotation for the Department's Literacy Coordinator Position; maintaining activity in scholarship, student advisement, college and departmental service.


Required qualifications: PhD or EdD in literacy education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field in teacher education (ABD considered, doctorate required by time of first renewal notification); demonstrated expertise in teacher education; at least three years of teaching experience along with teaching certification within B-6 and/or 5-12 education.

Preferred: teaching experience in both undergraduate and graduate education; specialization/expertise in B-2 teacher education, reading teacher/literacy classroom experience, research methods, diverse linguistic systems or other related areas; experience working with first generation college students; experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/or multicultural teaching experience.
