Northern New Jersey

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR UNIVERSITY OPERATIONS

Fairleigh Dickinson University, a private, multi-campus university in Northern New Jersey, announces a national search for the newly created position of Senior Vice President for University Operations, and invites nominations, applications, and expressions of interest.

Founded in 1942 as a two-year college in Rutherford, New Jersey, Fairleigh Dickinson University has become a comprehensive university and center of academic excellence dedicated to the preparation of world citizens through global education.  It offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including doctoral degrees in clinical psychology, higher education, nursing practice, pharmacy, and school psychology.  Its more than 12,000 students study on one of its four campuses: two in New Jersey (in Teaneck and Madison), one in Great Britain (Wroxton College), and another in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Ranked 50th overall among the regional universities in the North and number 16 in Best Value by U.S. News and World Report, Fairleigh Dickinson is the largest private university in New Jersey.  It is internationally recognized for its longstanding commitment to global education and was the first American university to open its own British campus.  It also has many exchange relationships with universities in Latin America, South Korea, and Western Europe, and its proximity to New York City and the United Nations has enabled it to create unique opportunities for global education.  It also has a history of embracing innovative curricula and pedagogies that more effectively serve the career aspirations of its students and the emerging needs of society.  To support its continued growth, the University is in the midst of a $125 million comprehensive campaign that will provide new facilities and additional scholarship funds.  To help keep a Fairleigh Dickinson education affordable for all, the University announced a tuition reduction of nearly 25 percent for the fall of 2021.

As part of a broader program of increased institutional effectiveness, the University recently created the position of Senior Vice President for University Operations.  The position will report to the President, serve on the President’s Cabinet, and participate in the executive discussions and decision making of the University.  The Senior Vice President will have oversight of many of the non-academic operations on the two New Jersey campuses, including Facilities and Auxiliary Services, Student Affairs, Athletics, Student Counseling and Health Services, Academic and Disabilities Support Services, and Public Safety.  In addition, the Senior Vice President will have a major leadership role in planning, prioritizing, executing, and assessing structural and organizational change throughout the University.  The successful candidate for this position will have the opportunity to have a significant impact on an institution that is open to change and genuinely welcomes innovation and new ideas.

The ideal candidate for this position will be an energetic and experienced higher education executive administrator who has been successful in leading institutional change.  This will require excellent oral and written communication skills, planning and assessment skills, and the ability to lead in a collegial and highly participatory culture.  Experience with facilities planning and oversight, emergency response, and crisis management are also expected.

For fullest consideration, applications should be received by March 8, 2021.
