Old Dominion University’s Department of English invites applications for a full-time, continuing contract position beginning fall term 2021 for a lecturer in general education composition. The lecturer will teach four sections per semester and engage in department service. Classes are taught on campus and online through Zoom. Expertise in and experience teaching composition is required. Minimum degree requirements: MA or MFA in English or related field. Old Dominion University is an equal opportunity, affirmative action institution. Minorities, women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise or experience instituting anti-racist pedagogies and/or candidates with basic writing teaching expertise and/or experience. Ability and/or willingness to contribute to professional development regarding anti-racist pedagogies as part of department service or experience with ALP models is a plus.

Interested candidates should submit the following documents through the university’s online job application system http://jobs.odu.edu: curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a diversity statement, unofficial transcripts, contact information for three professional references, and three letters of recommendation.

The committee hopes to learn about the candidate’s approaches to teaching composition from the statement of teaching philosophy. The committee hopes to learn from the diversity statement how candidates support the needs of diverse students in composition courses.

Inquiries about the position should be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Dr. Kristi Costello (kcostell@odu.edu).

Review of applications will begin March 1, 2021.
