Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor of Practice

in Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Cleveland State University is seeking to fill a nine-month, Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Assistant Professor of Practice position to begin August 16, 2021. Fully accredited since 1976, the PT program is located within The School of Health Sciences, part of the College of Sciences and Health Professions. The DPT Program actively engages students in the educational process and provides an energetic, collegial, and supportive academic environment within the University and the dynamic Cleveland biomedical community. Cleveland State University is an urban campus serving racially, culturally, and economically diverse students.

Primary Duties for both positions include teaching DPT courses; being involved in ongoing curriculum development/evaluation; mentoring/advising students; and providing academic, professional, and/or community service. In addition, Assistant Professors are expected to conduct research, while Assistant Professors of Practice are expected to contribute to research.

Minimum Qualifications: Physical therapist with eligibility for Ohio PT licensure; a minimum of three years (Assistant Professor) or 10 years (Assistant Professor of Practice) of clinical physical therapy practice experience; the ability to teach core courses in the DPT Program; strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and work on teams; evidence of teaching capability; and capability to conduct (Assistant Professor) or contribute to (Assistant Professor of Practice) research and scholarship. In addition, by July 1, 2021, candidates for Assistant Professor must have an earned research doctorate in physical therapy or a related field and candidates for Assistant Professor of Practice must have an earned clinical doctorate in physical therapy or an earned research doctorate in physical therapy or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching, especially in higher education and/or in physical therapy; APTA board-certified clinical specialist and/or graduate of clinical residency or fellowship training program; experience in integrating technology into teaching; professional, academic, and/or community service and/or leadership; and experience serving diverse students and/or the ability to make a positive contribution to CSU’s diverse community. In addition, for the Assistant Professor position, evidence of excellence in research, including a record of publications and successful grant activity; and for the Assistant Professor of Practice position, demonstrated interest and contribution to research.
