Job Summary

LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute of CU-Boulder at the international forefront of research in solar, planetary, atmospheric, and space plasma physics. Our record of excellence in instruments and spacecraft, mission operations, and science data analysis is supported by organizational expertise in space-flight electronics; flight, ground and science analysis software, mechanisms, structures, detectors, and optics across a wide spectral range. This includes sensors for optical, energetic particle, dust, electric field, and magnetic field measurements.

Our Engineering Division has the role of inventing at LASP – using current technologies focused on innovative solutions and developing new technologies to tackle sophisticated scientific and mission questions. The Electrical Engineering department has positions open for hardworking and enthusiastic individuals who will be involved in projects from concept to launch.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Your primary responsibility will be to design, analyze, test, and deliver space flight electronics.
  • Work closely with other engineers and other fields (Systems, Mechanical, Thermal, Software, Science, QA, and Project Management) as required.
  • Perform design and reliability analyses including Parts Stress Analysis and Worst Case Analysis.
  • Work with external vendors for layout, assembly, etc. as required.
  • Assist in requirements generation and verification.
  • Generate peer-review and NASA review materials.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, and/or electrical and computer engineering.

What You Will Need

  • Design knowledge in one or more of these EE fields:
    • Electrical Wiring Harness Design and Manufacturing
    • Ground Support Equipment Design (hardware and/or software)
    • Embedded Microprocessor System Design (hardware and/or software)
    • Digital Printed Wiring Board (a.k.a., Printed Circuit Board) Layout
    • Digital FPGA Design and Verification (VHDL/Verilog)
    • Analog/Detector/Mechanism Control Design and Monitoring
    • Low noise analog circuit design
    • Motor controller design
  • Power Conversion (Low-Voltage and/or High-Voltage Power Supplies)
  • Schematic Design tools (OrCad, Eagle, Altium, PSpice, etc.)
  • Circuit simulation tools (PSpice, LTspice, etc.)
  • Layout Tools (PADS, Eagle, Altium, ORCAD PCB, CAM350 or equivalent)
