PRA(s) for RADD LAB

Job Summary

We are encouraging applications for a Professional Research Assistant position(s) in the RADD Lab to support a cluster of new studies that investigate core neurocognitive markers that predict resilience in teens and college students. The position will primarily be centered on research recruitment, acquiring behavioral and neuroimaging data, and database management. We may hire more than one employee to continue the research efforts of the lab.

Who We Are

The Research on Affective Disorders and Development (RADD) laboratory, under the direction of Dr. Roselinde Kaiser, is working to understand neurocognitive dysfunction in depression, including abnormalities in the structure, molecular signaling, and coordinated activity of brain networks involved in cognitive regulation and learning. We explore these topics from a developmental perspective, with a special interest in using neurocognitive risk markers to predict the onset and course of depression or bipolar disorders in teens or young adults. Clinically, we are testing how neurocognitive functioning may be enhanced to foster mood health, with the goal of translating basic science into improved treatment and emotional wellness.

The RADD Lab is affiliated with both the Institute of Cognitive Science and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at CU Boulder; The mission of the Institute of Cognitive Science (ICS) at CU-Boulder is to understand and enhance human cognition, learning, and development through the creation of interdisciplinary partnerships. ICS fosters rich scientific interchange across researchers from a broad range of fields including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Philosophy, and Education.

The Crown Institute’s research focuses on practices, programs, and policies that foster wellness among children and youth, families and caregivers, and educators. Scholars in multiple fields work together and in partnership with families, teachers, young people, and community members. The overall approach to the study of wellness in the Crown Institute foregrounds the importance of contextual factors and addresses disparities in access to health and education, such as those related to gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, language, geography, or other forms of identity. The Wellness Institute is an equity-focused interdisciplinary institute. Our key research areas seek to address disparities in mental health, wellness, and education due to gender, race, ethnicity, linguistic diversity, geography, income, and other structural and systemic inequities. Our founding team brings together faculty from the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience in the College of Arts and Sciences and faculty from the School of Education. The Figueroa Project - CU Well Brain study looks at life experiences, coping strategies, cognitive abilities, brain functioning, and daily behaviors in college students as possible predictors of wellness.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

• recruit and schedule participants for clinical and neuroimaging research studies (e.g., healthy individuals, individuals with depression or other mood disorders),
• data collection (computer-based, MRI), and
• database management (using neuroimaging software such as FSL, SPM, AFNI; or statistical programs such as R),
• support for general management of lab operations,
• and other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager or PI.

We have a flexible start date between April - June 2021.

What We Can Offer

Salary range of $35,000-$42,000.

What We Require

BA/BS in Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or related field.

What You Will Need

Successful candidates will have strong oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, be highly reliable, and enjoy working in a collaborative team environment. In addition, they will have a demonstrated ability to multi-task efficiently and to coordinate activities across different research labs and investigators.

What We Would Like You To Have

• Research experience collecting, processing or analyzing data with human subjects,
• Demonstrated ability to perform as an independent researcher (e.g., undergraduate thesis)
• Experience with R, unix, python, matlab or another programming language.
• Prior experience in neuroimaging with clinical or developmental samples is also preferred.
