Job Summary

The Institute of Cognitive Science (ICS) at the University of Colorado Boulder anticipates hiring a full-time postdoctoral fellow starting Summer/Fall 2021 for a 2-3 year position. The position includes a competitive salary commensurate with experience and full benefits. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The postdoc will collaborate on research projects involving analysis of multivariate time-series data (e.g., physiological signals, speech communications, sleep patterns) during small group interactions in the lab, classrooms, and the workplace. The position offers a unique postdoctoral training experience and unsurpassed publishing opportunities within multi-disciplinary, multi-institution, grant-funded projects. The postdoc will be encouraged to publish extensively, advance their own research program, develop advanced technical skills, strengthen their research portfolios, develop leadership skills, and gain expertise in authoring grant proposals.

The postdoc will also be part of the NSF National AI Institute for Student-AI teaming https://www.colorado.edu/research/ai-institute/ , which aims to reframe the role of AI in education, moving towards a future where AI is viewed as a social, collaborative partner that helps students work and learn more effectively, engagingly, and equitably, while helping educators focus on what they do best: inspiring and teaching students.

We apply insights from basic research and computational modeling to develop intelligent technologies that help people achieve to their fullest potential by coordinating what they think and feel with what they know and do. We are housed in the Institute of Cognitive Science, whose missions is to enhance human cognition, learning, and development through the creation of interdisciplinary partnerships. ICS fosters rich scientific interchange across researchers from a broad range of fields including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Philosophy, and Education.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Leading the analysis of multimodal, multivariate time series data collected in individual and small-group studies in the lab and in the wild.
  • Providing intellectual contributions with respect to theory development, study design, and funding applications.
  • Disseminating findings via peer-reviewed publications and assisting with reporting requirements.
  • Training lab members in advanced statistical techniques (note there is no formal teaching requirement).
  • Contributing towards a self-governed collaborative lab environment.
