VCU department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dependable Cyber Physical Systems lab is seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow to assist with research and development of high assurance critical systems and Cyber Assurance of Embedded Systems. The VCU Dependable Cyber Physical Systems Lab and group focuses on the research, design, and verification of highly reliable and trustworthy Cyber Physical computing systems. Our lab is multidisciplinary, comprising faculty and research members whose expertise spans across hardware architectures, dependability and cyber-security, Unmanned Autonomous Systems, Nuclear Energy Instrumentation and Control, advanced sensors, embedded medical devices, and formal verification methods. Our lab has a strong focus on experimental methods and practices, we develop techniques and methods that are applied to real world systems or verified with actual data. This specific post-doctoral position is expected to contribute to several funded projects. These projects include, but not limited to; (1) applying model-based design and testing to design and assess cyber physical systems, and (2) conducting research on advanced runtime verification methods, and (3) developing advanced execution monitoring techniques to ensure the safety and security of embedded systems.

The skills and expertise desired for this position are:

Desired -
• Knowledge of formal methods for verification of embedded systems
• Teaching experience
• Xilinx FPGA tool chains
• Autonomous systems
• Dependable and Safety critical systems concepts
• Fault injection methods
• Knowledge of Assembly language programming

Strongly desired -
• Deep knowledge of model-based engineering methods and tools
• Knowledge of FPGA design and development
• Deep Knowledge and practical skills with runtime verification methods and tools for cyber physical systems
• Strong Programming skills in C, C+, VHDL, matlab

Required Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution, a strong background in cyber physical systems, dependable systems and FPGA design.

The postdoctoral candidate will collaborate with VCU faculty on Cyber Physical Systems and cybersecurity projects and grants. The faculty mentorship will be with the DeCyPS lab under Dr. Carl Elks at VCU ( https://egr.vcu.edu/directory/carlelks/). Responsibilities include mentoring graduate students in the lab, conducting research in areas mentioned above, publishing in leading conferences and journals, preparation and submission of related grant proposals, and co-teaching one undergraduate class per year.
