Position Details
Wesleyan University has approximately 3,000 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. The office of Counseling and Psychological Services ( CAPS ) provides individual psychotherapy, medication management, therapeutic groups, and consultation for the Wesleyan student community. Outreach is included in the services provided and is essential to the community health model to which CAPS adheres. CAPS operates on an 8:30 AM – 7 PM schedule with 24/7 coverage through an on-call rotation.
Reporting to the Director of CAPS , the psychotherapist will provide individual and group psychotherapy for students with a wide range of mental health concerns.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide individual and group psychotherapy for students with a wide range of mental health concerns, using a trauma-informed approach to clinical care.
- Provide education and outreach specifically designed to engage members of marginalized student communities, with an emphasis on Black/African American and student of color communities.
- In collaboration with Equity & Inclusion, partner with student groups (including Ujaama, Women of Color Collective, etc.) to facilitate effective social justice-oriented programs.
- Provide supervision to trainees.
- Maintain clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
This position works full-time (37.5 hours/week) for 43 weeks during the academic year and is off during the summer.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ), Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist ( LMFT ) in CT, or eligible for immediate licensure in CT.
Masters in Psychology or Social work or a related field with a minimum of two years of clinical professional experience working with clients who present with an array of psychiatric issues.
Demonstrated experience working with individuals who have experienced race-based trauma.
Understanding of racial stress, racial trauma, multiracial identity, and systemic racism.
Demonstrated experience working with clients from traditionally marginalized communities including clients of color, clients with disabilities, first generation college students, clients from various socioeconomic backgrounds, LGBTQIA clients, and international clients.
Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
Experience with documentation of case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist (PhD or PsyD) in CT, or eligible for immediate licensure in CT.
Demonstrated experience working with individuals who have experienced sexual trauma or intimate partner violence.
Demonstrated experience conducting education and outreach activities related to social justice issues.
Two or more years of professional clinical experience with a late adolescent/emerging adult population.
Demonstrated interest in diversity-related outreach/education and clinical work.
Demonstrated experience in intercultural competency.
Direct or indirect experience supervising others or leading groups.
