9950401 - Grounds Operations

Job Summary
The Groundskeeper maintains, cares, and modifies the University grounds and landscape, operates electrically/gasoline-powered equipment and machines, and uses small hand and power tools in planting, cultivating, and trimming the grounds and landscaping.

Responsibilities
  • Operate pressure washers to clean building exterior
  • Remove recyclable materials from outdoor receptacles
  • Work as a team member with others in coordinating all phases of work
  • Adhere to OSHA standards, employ safe practices, and follow safety policies/procedures
  • Use PPE in a safe manner, set examples for others, and notify supervisor of potential hazards
  • Perform routine landscaping tasks within assigned areas (i.e., weeding, pruning, and mulching, seeding, edging, trimming, planting)
  • Identify, prepare and apply herbicides, pesticides, chemicals, fertilizers
  • Maintain turf by mowing, seeding, sodding, edging of sidewalks and watering
  • Assist with tree trimming, clean-up and removal
  • Execute plans to systematically cut grass within assigned geographical areas
  • Use hand and power tools to cut grass and weeds
  • Operate lawnmowers and various equipment used in landscaping and parking lot maintenance
  • Perform general and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment (i.e., sharpening blades, changing oils, lubricants, filters, belts)
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Experience
  • One (1) year of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
  • Experience performing commercial landscape maintenance
  • Experience operating commercial lawn mowers and small power equipment

Proposed Salary
$23,700
