The University of Southern Indiana (USI) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life. Founded in 1965, the University of Southern Indiana enrolls approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 36 states and 68 countries. As part of a team, the Associate Director reports to the Director and assists in providing administrative leadership for the department of Housing and Residence Life. The Associate Director is responsible for the supervision, planning, organization, and coordination of all aspects of professional and paraprofessional staff. This includes the selection, training, and evaluation of all Area Coordinators, Resident Assistants, and other student staff in conjunction with the Assistant Directors.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and coordinating training and development for all staff, coordinating assessment processes and projects, creating department publications, and managing budgets as assigned by the Director.
  • Serve as the Housing and Residence Life liaison for summer orientation programs.
  • Serve on the university Campus Action Response and Engagement (CARE) Team and works closely with the Dean of Students office staff for student conduct response and case adjudication follow up.
  • Serve in on-call rotation with Assistant Directors to respond to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Developing a strong team and enhancing the living and learning experience of residential students.

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Master’s degree required; Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field preferred.
  • Three years full-time post masters experience required; 5+ years full-time post masters experience strongly preferred. Full-time experience in a residence life live-in or live-on position required. Previous hall director or area coordinator experience preferred. Previous supervision of professional staff preferred.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as be an effective team member.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, written and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student, faculty, staff, parent, and visitor population.
  • Refined presentation skills, in both large and small groups.
  • Presentation of a consistently professional demeanor at all times, even in difficult or frustrating situations.
