The College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University is accepting applications for a faculty position (career contract, rank open) in Criminology and Criminal Justice.  Shenandoah University is a comprehensive. private institution located in the historic and scenic Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Virginia, approximately 70 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.  The position will start in the Fall of 2021.

Position Summary:

Candidates will be required to teach criminology and criminal justice undergraduate courses, including but not limited to Introductory courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice and Introduction to Criminology, and in areas such as the Courts and Criminal Law, as well as mid-level courses in the program curriculum.

Required qualifications: 

A doctoral degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology by the start of the Fall 2021 semester, demonstrated excellence in teaching, evidence of scholarly and professional activities, and experience teaching undergraduate courses.

Preferred qualifications: 

Preference will be given to individuals with teaching or research experience in criminal law, the courts, and current critical justice topics. In addition, the candidate should be capable of teaching a wide variety of courses at the undergraduate level, as well those who have interest in expanding on-campus research, service, and extracurricular opportunities for students.

  3. list of three current recommendations from people who are in a position to know the applicant’s expertise, with at least one addressing teaching effectiveness and at least one to address research and scholarly activities
  4. evidence of effective teaching (including student evaluations, if available)
  5. a complete description of scholarly activities
  6. Copies of all college transcripts. (Official transcripts will be required of all finalists.) 

The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a qualified candidate is selected. A pre-employment background check will be required. If the job requires driving for University business, a satisfactory driving record will also be required.
