Description

The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing is seeking candidates for an Assistant/Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, whose education, perspectives, and experience enable them to provide leadership and coordinate activities to build and maintain a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff and student body and support equity in research, teaching, practice and community engagement. This is a full-time position that is 50% administrative staff (Assistant/Associate Dean) and 50% faculty. Faculty appointment will be at a rank consistent with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing leadership, vision, integrity, and a team-oriented philosophy for diversity and inclusion efforts, including recruitment, selection, appointment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Developing a common vision and strategic plan for an inclusive climate in the UT Austin School of Nursing and outlining steps to realize the vision.
  • Coordinating activities with the School of Nursing's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, Faculty Recruitment Committee, Office of Student Affairs, Division Chairs and Program Directors to enhance the recruitment, retention and success of diverse faculty, staff and students.
  • Acting as diversity and inclusion liaison for the Dean and the School of Nursing's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee; the University's Coalition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officers; external stakeholders; and the public.
  • Serving as a liaison with the School of Nursing's Associate Dean for Research to promote high-quality research with underserved populations that advances diverse representation, more inclusive research designs, equity and social justice.
  • Developing relationships to create an innovative pipeline to support the diversity of professional nursing programs.
  • Being a visible, accessible leader for faculty, staff and students underrepresented in nursing.
  • Providing strategies for identifying diverse candidates and addressing bias in screening and selection.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DNP, EdD) in nursing or a related field supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in an institution of higher education (e.g., multicultural education, sociology, critical race and/or gender studies, disability studies); Excellent command of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism concepts and issues in higher education; Demonstrated understanding of, and support for, key concepts in diversity, equity, and inclusion training, including critical race theory, feminism, queer theory, multi-systemic privilege, oppression, protected classes, and micro-aggressions, etc.; Skill in working collaboratively with others and in developing professional alliances; and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Current licensure as a registered nurse or professional experience in health care strongly preferred. Experience as a diversity officer or other similar title. Experience in academic leadership in a school of nursing is strongly preferred. Success obtaining extramural funding to support diversity efforts or related research and publications.
