Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the School Counseling faculty position for the School Counseling program within the Division of Human Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in both core area and school counseling courses, engaging in research and scholarship, advising graduate students, clinical supervision and participating in university, local, regional, or national service. The successful candidate will also be responsible for directing the placements of students in clinical placements, meeting with and developing new clinical placement sites, facilitating professional development opportunities for clinical site supervisors, supervising practicum and internship students, advising students, and actively participating in campus committees and professional counseling organizations.

Responsibilities/Duties: 

  • Teach graduate level counseling courses across the core areas in both school counseling;
  • Supervise practicum & interns
  • Fulfill institutional, community, and professional service and/or scholarship responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with faculty across the college
  • Develop relationships with school districts and regional cooperative education services.
  • Advise students.

Skill Sets: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with various student populations.
  • Familiarity with online teaching tools or platforms used in fully online or hybrid/blended formats
  • Ability to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse student, peer, and/or counseling/school-site populations.
  • Ability to reflect and learn from students' participation, demonstrating compassionate and consistent behavior in all educational matters, while maintaining high standards.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Preferably 2-3 years of experience teaching students in K-12 public or private counselor education program settings.
  • Preferably a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a counseling and/or education settings; experience teaching adult learners in a graduate environment in the classroom and/or online is favorable.

Education Requirements:

  • D. or Ed. D degree in related field with a background in School Counseling.
  • Illinois Professional Educator's License: School Service Personnel Certificate K-12 (formerly Type 73 certification) preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting range and faculty rank is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia health, disability and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees and their eligible dependents.
