Hood College
Vice President for Community and Inclusivity

Situated on a beautiful campus in vibrant Frederick, Maryland, Hood College seeks an innovative and progressive leader to serve as the inaugural Vice President for Community and Inclusivity (VPCI). As part of an innovative vision for the College's leadership structure, the VPCI will contribute to the continuing development of a culture of inclusion and wellness for everyone at Hood. This is an exciting opportunity to transform campus culture at an increasingly diverse institution, while enhancing students' experiences and employees' professional lives.

Hood College is an independent liberal arts college located on a striking and stunningly picturesque campus in the vibrant central Maryland city of Frederick. The College's well-regarded faculty and caring support staff provide a quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a small-college environment that integrates the liberal arts with professional studies and experiential learning. Hood's core values and traditions, its commitment to continuous improvement, comparative excellence, and exceeding student expectations have made it a treasured institution to current students and to graduates living in the United States and around the world. More than 1,100 undergraduates and nearly 1,000 graduate students from across the nation and the world are enrolled at Hood.

Frederick, the second largest city in Maryland is a diverse and growing community that offers all the benefits of urban life—including a thriving downtown, excellent public school system, and a regionally known dining scene—within a county famous for its agricultural richness, natural beauty, and historical sites. Frederick is conveniently near both Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Maryland.

President Andrea Chapdelaine believes strongly that the mission of the College to "provide an education that empowers students to use their hearts, minds, and hands to meet personal, professional and global challenges and to lead purposeful lives of responsibility, leadership, service and civic engagement" is achieved primarily through education and building a campus culture in alignment with that mission. To that end, she has reimagined her senior leadership team to create this new position of Vice President for Community and Inclusivity. Under the general direction of the President, the Vice President of Community and Inclusivity will be responsible for fostering the well-being of every member of the Hood community and a healthy, safe, empowering and inclusive campus climate. The Vice President of Community and Inclusivity works to ensure that processes, policies and strategic priorities reinforce and strengthen the College's overall commitment to the well-being of all members of the Hood community.

Hood College seeks a candidate who values diversity, equity and inclusion in all that they do. The successful candidate must possess a master's degree (doctorate preferred) from an accredited institution (e.g., human resources, higher education administration, organizational management or another academic discipline) and significant and effective experience and performance within higher education (or its equivalent) appropriate to becoming a senior administrative officer. A track record of accomplishment in building healthy and inclusive organizational communities and of being a leader who can engage in systems-level thinking and action to effect positive change and continuous improvement is necessary. The VP must also possess a demonstrated record of effective leadership and collegial relationships with co-workers, direct reports and internal and external constituents.

Additional desired abilities and attributes, as well as a full list of duties and responsibilities, are in the profile, which can be found here.

Applications should consist of a substantive cover letter, a curriculum vitae or resume and a list of five professional references with full contact information. No references will be contacted without the explicit permission of the candidate.
