The Educational Opportunity Program Counselor will provide group and individualized academic advising, instruction, programmatic and educational support. There will be emphasis on motivation, study strategies, and peer study groups to students within the EOP program. The position in critical in supporting the College mission and enhancing student experience. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Counselor is responsible for all assignments and/or projects related to the counseling of Educational Opportunity Program students as assigned by the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a counseling relationship with program students by providing individual and group counseling sessions relating to academic, financial, career, and personal counseling matters;
  • Submits periodic and semester student case management reports as required by the Director;
  • Participates in the EOP orientation program and assists in the development of additional EOP student programs;
  • Communicates with student support offices, faculty, and Residence Hall staff as appropriate to provide case management of EOP students.
  • Maintains channels of communication with and makes referrals to all College and community services which impact the EOP and its students, e.g. Financial Aid office, Business Office, and tutoring, counseling, accessibility, career services, and other support services.
  • Maintains office hours and regular EOP student contact in support of student academic success and retention;
  • Provides support to the EOP recruitment and admissions process and monitors filing of financial aid applications;
  • Maintains records of daily activities;
  • Serves on EOP standing committees and participates in other College activities related to EOP students;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of EOP.


Qualifications:


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related human services field required.
  • Experience working with students in a similar program in post-secondary education who are disadvantaged and from diverse cultural backgrounds required, and community college experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and proficiency in technology (Microsoft Office), required.


Preferred:

  • A Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of college admissions and student financial aid, preferred.
