Position Summary:

The Assay Services Unit at the WNPRC is seeking a highly motivated individual to participate in the high throughput analyses of human and nonhuman primate hormonal samples. Assay Services is one of five research service units at the WNPRC, and focuses on the development, validation, and analysis of biological samples for a wide variety of hormones, neurotransmitters, and biomarkers for nonhuman and human primate research. The lab serves primate research on the UW - Madison campus and from universities through the United States, as well as internationally. Assay Services is also a Core Lab for the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) at UW - Madison. The majority of the work will entail a background in neuroendocrinology, biochemistry or chemistry.

Principal duties will include setting up solvent extractions and running biological samples for HPLC with mass spectrometry, ultraviolet and electrochemical detection (80%). Incumbent will be responsible for setting up HPLC and mass spectrometry equipment (20%). Duties will also include statistical analyses, computer record-keeping, and use of Excel and graphic programs.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Preferred areas of specialization may include: biomedical fields, chemistry, biochemistry, neuroscience or endocrinology.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Basic laboratory experience required, particularly pipetting and working with organic solvents. Experience in measuring analytes by high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry is desirable. Candidate must be well-organized and able to work both within a team and independently.

The minimum salary for the Associate (entry-level) Research Specialist will be $36,000. The minimum salary for the (no-prefix) Research Specialist will be $43,000; two or more years of professional laboratory experience is required for appointment at the no-prefix level.

Additional Information:

-Schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, with time on weekends or evenings if needed. In an effort to maintain social distancing, this position will be on-site 90% during training. Once trained, the incumbent will work approximately 50% on-site and 50% remotely.
-A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
-A one-year period of evaluation will be required.
