Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide is currently accepting applications for the Dean of Online Learning position. Reporting to the Chancellor of the Worldwide Campus, the Dean of Online Learning is responsible for providing day-to-day management and administrative oversight for all aspects of online program operations including, but not limited to: online instructional design and development; faculty development and training; teaching and learning excellence; academic technology; budgeting; operations; data collection and assessment; and reporting.

The Dean of Online Learning will help develop best practices and guidelines in online design and delivery for the academic Colleges to continuously improve the quality of course design and faculty support. The Dean of Online Learning is responsible to coordinate activities with the academic Colleges, operations, Dean of Students office and registrar as they pertain to the design and management of online courses.

The Dean of Online Learning must be an innovator, collaborator, and strategist with a deep understanding of both the opportunities and challenges that are emerging in the rapidly evolving teaching and learning landscape. She/he must demonstrate a proven track record as an administrator and substantive experience as a teacher of a discipline within higher education including online education. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and an open and collegial style is required. Knowledge of research, best practices, and emerging trends in teaching and learning, as well as faculty scholarship and leadership are vital to this role.

The Dean of Online Learning must show demonstrated expertise in enhancing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning. She/he must be a leader with the skill to elevate the visibility of the areas under her/his purview and serve as a partner for campus-wide priorities. This leader will possess knowledge of current best practices for effective teaching and learning, and knowledge of learning analytics. She/he will provide a vision for fostering an environment of andragogical and pedagogical innovation, including online learning, that leverages cutting edge methodologies and technologies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in one of the following areas: Education, Online Education, Instructional Design, Instructional/Educational Technology or Teaching and Learning
  • 10 years of work related experience at an accredited university with 5 years dedicated in leadership positions.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience in online higher education.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to develop standards that assure quality online learning.
  • Proven experience in successful management of significant budget resources and operations.
  • Ability to be innovative in planning, developing, and producing quality instruction and support services delivered via technology.
  • Ability to stay current and informed of research, trends, and innovations in teaching and learning as applied to hybrid and online learning environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in a way that relates well to staff and students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to learn administrative tools, software, web-based applications, and programming commands as needed to assist in the management, maintenance, troubleshooting, and system administration of distance learning systems and processes.
