Serves as a member of the Barber Library leadership team and provides primary support and management for current vendor-hosted library systems including Barber Library’s Shared Integrated Library Systems ( SILS ). Provides leadership in the discovery and accessibility of current information resources and researches, evaluates, and recommends new library technologies.

Terms of Employment:
• This is a 12-month exempt position at pay level 25 in the Administrative salary schedule.
• Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district.
• Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire.
•COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
•The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
• Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.

Essential Functions:

Library Systems and Databases
(Note: COCC Barber Library participates in a Shared Integrated Library System ( SLIS ) via its Orbis Cascade Alliance membership.)
● Administers all aspects of the operation and configuration of the vendor-hosted Shared Integrated Library Systems ( SILS ), currently Ex Libris Alma, and coordinates its use with Technical Services and Access Services to maximize the system’s capabilities in acquisitions, cataloging, serials, and circulation.
● Manages all aspects of the operation and configuration of the vendor-hosted discovery system, currently Ex Libris Primo, including integration with link resolvers, knowledge bases, APIs, Interlibrary Loan systems (currently ILLiad), and other external systems as needed.
● Serves as COCC’s ELUNA (Ex Libris Users of North America) representative.
● Works closely with Access Services and Technical Services staff to support and provide training for the SILS, other vendor-hosted library systems, and specialized software in Interlibrary Loan, Circulation, Reference, and Acquisitions.
● Manages technical configuration and customization features of the library’s vendor-hosted electronic databases and discovery applications. Ensures reliable access to subscribed electronic information resources. Troubleshoots remote access problems and coordinates problem resolution with IT staff and/or content providers.
● Serves as technical liaison for the library’s database vendors.

Orbis Cascade Alliance
(Note: COCC Barber Library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of 37 academic libraries across Oregon, Washington and Idaho.)
● Coordinates the library’s overall work with the Orbis Cascade Alliance on SILS systems and technical issues. Works with the Head of Access Services on Alliance Summit system changes and troubleshooting.
● Participates as an active member in Orbis Cascade Alliance working groups, including serving as COCC’s liaison to the Systems and Discovery and User Experience ( DUX ) teams and participates in SILS evaluation and related development activities.
● Collaborates with other Alliance members and COCC librarians to implement Alliance strategic plans.
● Leads work in the Technical Services area to perform data analysis and clean-up. Ensures awareness of and compliance with Orbis-Cascade cataloging and metadata policies.

Library Technology Projects
● Researches, evaluates and recommends library technologies to meet the changing needs of students, faculty, and staff; to enhance library instruction; and to create efficiencies for all departments in the library. Trains staff on new technologies and applications as needed.
● Collaborates with the Head of Access Services to research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, and maintain items for the library’s technology lending program. Provides end-user support and training for technology lending program. Periodically assesses library technology lending program.
● Provides technical support to students, faculty and staff for library systems.
Technical Support & Web Development
● Develops and manages the library’s department pages in OmniUpdate, working closely with COCC’s web developer and web designer to ensure reliable discovery and delivery of electronic information resources in support of coursework, research, and teaching
● Maintains the library’s Virtual Private Server and WordPress installation. Researches and installs or develops web applications as needed for library staff and patrons.
● Provides technical support and design for LibGuides.
● Serves as the department ITS liaison, including communicating information commons computing vision and needs to the ITS department; using established procedures for recommending new implementations and requesting new projects; and being the primary point of contact for troubleshooting all library technologies (software, hardware, network, college systems).
● Works with the ITS department to ensure accuracy of EZ Proxy configuration and to resolve any operational problems related to on-campus and remote access to library electronic resources.
● Serves as primary point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving library website and Single Sign-On authentication problems, in coordination with ITS .
● Provides expert advice and leadership to the library management team in the shaping of the library’s web presence.
● Performs periodic usability studies of the library’s website.

Library Reporting
● Provides accurate and regular statistics for assessment, reporting, and decision-making purposes. Regularly gathers, manages, and reports on library database use statistics from vendor systems.
● Provides or assists other staff in providing collections, circulation, or other statistics from the ILS and library systems for mandatory college, federal, and industry reports.
Information Literacy & Research Services
● Participates in the Information Literacy (IL) teaching programs developed by the library, including faculty and student workshops and IL sessions for courses.
● Participates in the articulation of the library’s IL program objectives.
● Staffs the library’s reference/research desk and supports the library’s research services in person, as well as via chat, email and phone.

Library management
● Assists the library management team in the development of the library’s strategic plans, priorities, and overall management of the library’s Information/Learning Commons.
● Provides appropriate library administrative support in the absence of the library director.

Other instructional support
● Collaborates with the Instruction & Outreach Librarian, COCC faculty, and Administration to advocate for and support efforts for the promotion of OER and Affordability projects on behalf of the students.
● Fills standing library position on the Teaching & Learning Center ( TLC ) Advisory Council with the primary purpose of developing and maintaining the TLC website and communications.
● Other duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities
● Participates in College committees and task forces, where appropriate and as time and interest permit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of library systems, current trends and emerging technologies.
2. Ability to troubleshoot library systems and perform routine maintenance on vendor-hosted systems.
3. Ability to teach students and faculty how to use library systems and technology.

5. Ability to use initiative and time management skills to manage own schedule and workload, which may involve multiple requests and the need to prioritize some requests over others based on college and department needs/goals.
6. Possess excellent skills in working within a team environment as well as an ability to lead.
7. Possess a clear understanding of the functions of an academic library and a strong commitment to delivering quality services supporting the college and its curriculum. This requires a keen focus on the needs and desires of faculty, staff, and students, and the ability to establish goals, priorities, and operations that best meet these needs.
8. Possess a good understanding of the vision and goals of the Information/Learning Commons as well as its applications within an academic library environment.
9. Possess excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate effective work with staff from the library and other departments, college faculty, and students as well as Orbis Cascade Alliance staff and colleagues in other colleges and libraries. Must have good listening skills with a willingness to hear all sides of an issue.
10. Possess excellent speaking and writing skills. Must have ability to document problems clearly and precisely and effectively manage communications via email and within various help desk systems.
11. Possess excellent analytical abilities to troubleshoot and come up with creative solutions.
12. Ability to provide exceptional support to all patrons who need reference or research assistance using the library’s numerous tools and resources.
13. Possess a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the College and the Library .
14. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and employee population.
15. Ability to communicate fluently and effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Work hours are regular, per the established work schedule. Work is performed in an ordinary office, mostly sitting. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature with the ability to sit or stand at workstation for extended periods. The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting under ten pounds for 15 percent of the time. Computer screen is used more than 90 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. MLIS (Master’s in Library & Information Science) or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited program.
2. Three years of experience working in libraries or an academic setting in higher education.
3. Three years of experience working with integrated library systems.
4. Three years of experience in web page design and creation within a content management system ( CMS ). Knowledge of basic HTML and CSS .
