The University of Otago has started a global search for its next Vice-Chancellor to succeed Professor Harlene Hayne. The University is one of the world’s finest universities – and Aotearoa New Zealand’s oldest - having built its exceptional profile through a commitment to the betterment of society by research, learning and teaching and by working in partnership with the communities it seeks to serve.

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the University in its next chapter, to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi, to enhance its quest for excellence in research and education, to enrich student experience, to enhance its international profile, to drive powerful strategies progressing diversity, inclusion and public-spirited strategy and action.

The next Vice-Chancellor will be a determined and inspirational leader of high intellectual standing who can demonstrate their ability to lead a complex institution to new levels of achievement and who is committed to the mission, aspiration and values of the University.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding ability to engage with Māori and Pacific peoples, a clear vision for the future of the University, its academic aspirations and its ability to create economic, social and cultural value in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally.
