The Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) brings together more than four decades of innovative and life-saving research on vaccines and infectious diseases. http://www.medschool.umaryland.edu/cvd/ As an organized research center within the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), CVD comprises a multi-disciplinary team of faculty and staff whose primary mission is to develop, evaluate, and implement vaccines and other interventions to reduce illness and mortality domestically and in less developed countries. We work to prevent and treat enteric and respiratory diseases, to reduce the threat of malaria and antimicrobial resistance, and to identify, understand and combat other tropic and emerging pathogens burdening low resource settings. Training is a critical component of our work to ensure the foundation for the next generation of scientists and researchers committed to our mission.

The CVD is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to work on a 5 year, newly funded, NIH R01 award to investigate immunity to enteric vaccines/pathogens and the immune components that mediate protection against mucosal pathogens. The candidate will work with leaders in the field and in a collaborative and scientifically rich environment, and will have the opportunity to expand knowledge in immunology, vaccinology, in vivo animal models of infections, evaluation of immune responses in pre-clinical studies and analysis of immune correlates of protection.

The position is in the lab of Dr. Marcela Pasetti. Primary areas of interests of the group include pediatric vaccines, maternal and infant immunization, broadly protective vaccines to prevent enteric (Shigella, Salmonella, E. coli) and respiratory infections (pertussis, influenza, measles).

Qualifications :

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology or related field. Technical expertise in rodent handling and procedures, immunology and methods to examine immune responses (measurement of antibodies, B and T cell responses), evaluation of vaccines and infection in animal models, tissue culture and handling of pathogens is required. Candidates must have an adequate record of publications as well as communication (oral and written) skills. Ability to work independently is essential. Salary commensurate with experience.
