Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

Virginia Commonwealth University ( VCU ) University Counseling Services ( UCS ) invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Clinical Services. We are a dynamic center committed to promoting diversity and inclusion and invite applicants who share similar values. The Associate Director for Clinical Services reports to the director of UCS and is responsible for coordinating, and providing oversight, vision, and leadership for clinical services and operations. The Associate Director for Clinical Services also has the following responsibilities:

Analyzes all data related to clinical services and utilizes the data to help chart the directions of clinical services to best serve the student population.
Serves as a member of the UCS leadership team
Provides individual, couples, and group therapy
Develops clinical policies and procedures for our two office locations
Leads the Clinical Services Committee and oversees adherence to clinical policies and procedures
Demonstrates strong work ethic and commitment to the provision of service to our VCU community
Manages projects in areas of responsibility to include design, implementation and evaluation
Provides individual, couples, and crisis services to VCU students
Provides supervision and training for part-time staff
Provides administrative and clinical supervision to staff and trainees.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Hiring Standards

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience and demonstrated leadership in the provision of clinical services. The candidate must have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology or counseling psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program, completed an APA accredited internship, and licensed in their current jurisdiction of practice and must be license eligible in Virginia. The position also requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written, strong interpersonal skills, and experience with brief psychotherapy and group therapy. Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as an understanding of and commitment to diversity issues in the delivery and management of clinical services is also required.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Previous administrative experience in a counseling center
Experience supervising professional staff
Experience with analyzing clinical data and is detail oriented
Ability to handle complex crises and/or clinical situations and to provide supervision, training, and consultation to a large multidisciplinary staff and faculty on an as needed basis.
