Loyola University Chicago's (LUC) School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position in Geographic Information Systems, beginning in August 2021. The SES seeks to diversify its faculty and is particularly encouraging underrepresented minorities, women, and people with disabilities to apply. The successful candidate will start at the rank of Lecturer beginning in August of 2021, and the position will be reviewed every three years for renewal and promotion. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a 4 course per semester teaching load (the successful candidate may have a reduced teaching load of 3 course per semester by providing students and faculty researchers with fixed-schedule tutoring sessions. Evidence of successful mentoring in STEM contexts would be welcome). The candidate will be expected to teach GIS courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, contribute to teaching the GIS Certificate and mentoring students in GIS projects within the GIS Laboratory. In addition, the candidate will teach a sophomore-level Environmental Statistics course and develop new courses in GIS and spatial statistics as the technology advances. If desired, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop and engage in research projects during the summer months and apply for grant funding. This position may assume other duties as needed such as working as the assistant GIS Lab director in the future.
Applicants must have earned an advanced degree [Ph.D. required] in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Statistics, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field prior to the start of the position. Candidates with experience teaching (remote sensing) digital image analysis are preferred. ABD will be considered. One to three years of prior full-time college teaching experience is preferred. Candidates of color and those with experience teaching undergraduate courses as the instructor of record will be given strongest consideration.
Applicants must submit a current Curriculum Vitae, a letter of interest outlining their qualifications, a teaching portfolio, and the names and e-mail addresses of three references prepared to speak to their qualifications for this position. These individuals will not be contacted immediately but may be called upon during the review process. Submit these materials to www.careers.luc.edu.
