Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Search

Sam Houston State University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The university seeks an innovative and collaborative academic leader who will advance the mission and values of SHSU. SHSU is 70 miles north of downtown Houston and 170 miles south of Dallas, ideally situated on the rapidly developing Interstate 45 corridor between the 4th and 9th largest cities in the country and two of the 10 fastest growing cities in the U.S. This location presents many strategic opportunities for the future of Sam Houston State University. The new provost is expected to assume office in Summer 2021.

Founded in 1879, Sam Houston State University is one of seven institutions in the Texas State University System and the third oldest university in Texas. Located on a 316-acre main campus in Huntsville, Texas, with nearby campuses in The Woodlands and Conroe that offer baccalaureate and graduate degrees, SHSU serves a diverse student body of over 21,900 through traditional face-to-face and online courses. SHSU is classified both as a Carnegie Doctoral Research Institution and a Community Engagement University, and recently met the qualifications to be classified as a Hispanic-serving institution. The University offers more than 95 bachelor's degree programs, more than 60 master's degree programs, 10 doctoral programs, 1 professional doctorate (DO), and nearly 50 fully online degrees through its colleges of business administration, criminal justice, education, arts and media, health sciences, humanities and social sciences, science and engineering technology, and osteopathic medicine. The new College of Osteopathic Medicine enrolled its inaugural class of medical students in Fall 2020.

SHSU continually strives to meet the needs of students with new programs and innovative teaching and offers services and facilities that help to ensure student engagement and success. The strength of SHSU in these efforts is its student-centered faculty and staff, whose positive feedback earned the university recognition as a "Great College to Work For" by The Chronicle of Higher Education for nine years.
