General Summary/Purpose:

The Laboratory Technician at the Translational Tissue Engineering Center (TTEC) at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine will participate in the development and animal evaluation of novel materials, chemistries, and/or drug delivery strategies for the treatment of immune disorders in the laboratory of Dr. Joshua Doloff. The Doloff laboratory research focuses on the interface of biomaterials science, biotechnology and therapeutics.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include performing animal studies in rodents, implanting of materials/devices (controls and treated), taking blood samples or glucose measurements, whole-animal imaging, retrieval of devices, histology, fluorescent staining and microscopy, Flow/FACS analysis, and potentially device fabrication. Candidate would also maintain daily logs/basic records of methodologies and test results. With supervision, may summarize data and interpret results using descriptive statistics and basic hypothesis testing. May write standard operating procedures for documentation and make informal presentations of these procedures to others in the lab. Performs literature searches and library investigations as they relate to the research and/or as assigned. Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

This is a one-year assignment with the option to extend based upon continued funding and satisfactory job performance.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Life Science, Chemistry or a related scientific field. Basic laboratory experience and experience performing animal studies. Background in cell culture, tissue engineering, polymer chemistry, or molecular biology.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
