Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working in higher education.

  • Fundraising experience.
  • Individual donor and employee giving, alumni work, committee and volunteer experience, awareness and connections to the Greater KC philanthropic community.
Work Hours

Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.

Class Summary

Incumbents work in an administrative management role for an assigned program, department, or functional area. Major duties and responsibilities include: managing budgets and grants to ensure compliance with district policies, regulations, and procedures; assisting in the development of strategy, process and procedures for the MCC Foundation; managing daily operations and activities; preparing and reviewing reports and other communications; implementing solutions; serving as liaison and primary contact for assigned area in public relations, communications and outreach efforts; and performing professional level work in assigned area.

Typical Essential Duties

• Develop, manage and implement strategies for the MCC Foundation’s annual giving program, including campaigns related to, employee/affinity giving, direct mail, electronic/online giving, fundraising events, capital appeals, and other annual giving strategies. Manage and execute Foundation fundraising special events, including identification of event purpose, goals, budget, sponsorship levels and acquisition, promotion, logistics, day-of-event program, and follow up. Maintain portfolios of current and prospective major donors, with a focus on $15,000 level gifts and above. Assists the Executive Director in developing strategy, processes, and procedures for the MCC Foundation, and manages and participates in directing the implementation of internal operations for the Foundation’s programs, which includes: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; coordinating activities between multiple service areas; and working to integrate and coordinate service areas. Measure progress against benchmarks and make program adjustments regularly.

• Manages major gifts, budgets and grants to ensure compliance with District policies, regulations, and procedures. Exercises independent judgment in building and managing the MCC Foundation’s budgets, maximizing return on investment in all activities to ensure responsible and effective utilization of financial resources.

• Serves as a liaison and primary contact for an MCC’s major gifts, facilitating program and departmental public relations, communications, and outreach efforts; represents the MCC Foundation at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, on committees, and/or other related events. Develop and lead stewardship plan for donor recognition, including timely outreach, mailings, calls and events related to acknowledgement beyond the expected tax letter. Engage Foundation staff, college leadership and volunteer leadership in execution as appropriate.

• Cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects and forge strong relationships to influence and maximize contributions. Seeks and manages collaborative efforts with business and industry, community agencies, community organizations, educational institutions, internal departments, and/or other interested parties. Collaborate with MCC Administration to develop ideas that translate the college’s fundraising priorities into gift proposals and to advance major gift prospects.

• Submit timely contact reports for each visit with detailed briefing data. Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of complex and multi-faceted information, data, forms, schedules, calendars, surveys, reports, and other communications; makes recommendations based on findings; conducts research, needs assessment, and MCC Foundation activities.

• Coordinates activities in order to facilitate the maximum effectiveness and utilization of the Foundation’s resources. Collaborate with College Relations (marketing and communication) to create marketing materials and content that align with the case for support and manage production of annual giving materials across a variety of media including print, digital and social media channels, ensuring projects meet required timelines and specifications. Includes communication and materials for fundraising and engagement efforts, such as the Annual Report, newsletters, donors and prospect electronic and print appeals, and website content. Serve as Foundation and Alumni liaison to College Relations.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of leadership, fundraising, and strategic campaign implementation within a complex organization.

• Knowledge of volunteer management, successful solicitation of major gifts and annual giving, and a track record of creating and maintaining an effective donor stewardship program.

• Knowledge of major fundraising components (planned giving, corporate giving, sponsorships, capital campaigns, annual giving and major gifts).

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record prior to driving on district business.

Skills

• Skilled in working effectively with corporate entities involving boards of directors, bylaws, and activities.

• Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.

• Skilled in proven written and oral communication skills.

• Skilled in excellent presentation skills and ability (including ability to create and present using PowerPoint).
