Job Summary

Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is seeking an adjunct faculty member in our Education Department for the academic year starting in the fall of 2021. The staff in the department teach courses in Introduction to Teaching, Survey of the Exceptional Child, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for K-12 Educators, and Technology in Education for K-12 Educators, as well as courses in the Early Childhood Education portion of the program. In collaboration with our Psychology Department and other departments on campus, these courses are instrumental in preparing future teachers in early childhood education and in training future K-12 educators. In service to this goal, JCCC has created partnerships with many four-year colleges and universities to allow students a nearly seamless transfer program to earn a degrees in the education field.

The person selected for this position will be expected to teach the Technology in Education for K-12 Educators course. This person could teach up to six (6) credit hours per semester and perform other duties expected of an adjunct faculty member. Adjunct faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Adjunct faculty are expected to excel in classroom instruction and to fulfill various responsibilities related to their assigned teaching duties. Faculty must demonstrate deep subject knowledge, including key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools and techniques, and meaningful applications.

Faculty members are expected to possess thorough accurate knowledge of their specific field/discipline including the ability to evaluate and apply content, be committed
to professional development by keeping current in their respective discipline, select and develop instructional materials and assessments, plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning, create appropriate assignments to encourage student learning, the development of communication skills and higher order thinking, use available instructional technology as appropriate. Adjunct faculty members should use a variety of proven methods of engagement and assessment that facilitate student mastery of the content, provide students constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback, and evaluate student learning by creating and applying course competencies and accurately evaluating student progress. It is expected that all faculty members meet classes as scheduled and be accessible to students through email, wireless/cellular technology, or scheduled office hours including arranging, when necessary, additional times for appointments.

Required Qualifications

-Master of Science in Education degree
-K-12 teaching experience
-K-12 administrative experience or K-12 Instructional Coach experience
-College teaching experience
-Research, consulting, or training experience in educational technology
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Knowledge of state teacher education requirements
-Knowledge of educational law
-Ability to develop and maintain supportive relationships with college students.
-Ability to collaborate successfully with other departments on campus that support first- generation college students
-Ability to collaborate successfully with our university partners in coordinating transfer of our students to four-year teacher education programs

Preferred Qualifications

-Community college teaching teaching strongly preferred
-Research, consulting or training experience in teacher professional development
-Research, consulting or mentoring/training experience with pre/early-service teachers
-Knowledge/use of Canvas Learning Management System
-Research, consulting or mentoring/training experience with pre/early service teachers in areas of teacher pedagogy, instructional design, and research-based users for educational technology
-Familiar with instructional technology for data collection, collaboration and innovation
-Online teaching experience
