DIVISION: Student Affairs

DEPARTMENT: Student Health Center (SHC)

BASIC FUNCTION: The SHC Isolation Monitoring/Contact Tracer Registered Nurse will perform two specific COVID-19 pandemic related functions:

  • Conduct COVID-19 contact tracing. This involves interviewing students infected with COVID-19 to assess for close contacts and calling exposed students in order to initiate COVID-19 quarantine protocols

  • Conduct daily phone check-ins with students in COVID-19 isolation



UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Access to confidential medical information; ability to function during peak periods of demand for health care.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:

  • Excellent oral communication skills

  • Meticulous documentation skills

  • Friendly and caring demeanor

  • Sound clinical judgment in relation to COVID-19 management, isolation management and COVID-19 emergency warning signs and symptoms

  • Ability to work as part of the Student Health Center clinical team in-person, in the Student Health Center unit



EDUCATION: Registered Nurse in CT; Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred; successful completion of the Johns Hopkins University Contact Tracing Course

REPORTS TO: Director of Health Center

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Isolation Monitoring:

  • Conduct daily phone check-ins with Fairfield University student in COVID-19 isolation

  • Document these phone encounters

  • Assess the student’s status and progress by following the SHC COVID-19 isolation protocols

  • If the student meets COVID-19 emergency warning sign criteria, notify the SHC APRN on duty immediately

  • Attempt to develop rapport with students in isolation and remain alert for indications a Counseling and Psychological Services referral is warranted

  • If requested, assist the SHC Director in preparing certain reports related to this activity

  • Contact Tracing:

  • Conduct contact tracing interviews with COVID-19 infected students in order to identify any Fairfield University related close contacts

  • Contact exposed Fairfield University students in order to initiate COVID-19 quarantine protocols

  • Document above contact tracing activities

  • If requested, assist the SHC Director in preparing certain reports related to this activity

  • Function as part of the SHC clinical team:

  • Communicate effectively (verbally and in written form) with the SHC clinical team



This is a COVID-19 pandemic related position. The ability to work 20-29 hours per week is a requirement. There is no requirement to evaluate patients in person. This is a phone-based activity.
