Position Summary
Seeking a candidate to fill the role of Plant Utilities Engineer 3 in the Facilities Campus Operations unit at the University at Buffalo. This position will oversee Plant Utility Operations at the North Campus, South Campus & Downtown Campus and other related duties as assigned; ensuring compliance with regulations and the safety of the plant personnel.

Seeking a candidate to fill the role of Plant Utilities Engineer 3 in the Facilities Campus Operations unit at the University at Buffalo. This position will oversee Plant Utility Operations at the North Campus, South Campus & Downtown Campus and other related duties as assigned; ensuring compliance with regulations and the safety of the plant personnel.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Demonstrate exemplary customer service acumen and a full
understanding of departmental needs relative to the services we
provide. Regularly interface with FPMO’s and other department
heads; seeking feedback as a measure of performance. Be a role
model for other Supervisors and employees in all areas of conduct.
Be able to effectively and tactfully communicate in person, by
phone and in writing.
- Coordinate and deliver employee training in areas of Health
& Safety and on plant procedures from their first day by
utilizing and/or improving existing departmental training materials
and manuals; or to develop manuals where needed. Continuously
modify or revise training manuals to capture changes in procedures
or equipment. It is imperative that training is planned out in
advance and documented.
- Ensure continuity of plant operations at North, South, &
Downtown campus through pro-active planning and engagement in these
operations. Regular visits to each location to coordinate with
plant supervision and plant operators is required. Monitor and get
ahead of operational issues that require planning and capital
funding to execute; with intent to avoid any service interruptions.
Work with plant Supervision to ensure staffing while minimizing
overtime. Assume responsibility for plant operations in-person when
Supervisors take vacations; at all three campuses.
- Assist and/or coordinate and run larger repairs and small projects such that the Supervisors can focus on daily tasks, repairs, and employee issues. Knowledge of procurement and purchasing processes is helpful. Coordinate with multiple internal and external entities such as EH&S, D&C, Planning, contractors, outside utility providers and Skilled Trades.

- A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is required,
or candidate must otherwise demonstrate his/her capacity to meet
the transportation needs of the position; which is almost daily
travel amongst the three campuses.
- Completed technical certifications or degrees pertinent to
skilled trades or utility operations.
- Adept at using various related computer applications.
