POSITION:

The Department of Sociology at California State University, Fullerton is recruiting qualified candidates to teach courses on a part-time basis.

Among the courses to be staffed are:
  • Sociology 201 Social Media and Social Interaction
  • Sociology 300 Social Work
  • Sociology 303 Statistics
  • Sociology 305 Social Work Practice
  • Sociology 345 Sociology of Communication
  • Sociology 350 Social Relationships and Emotions
  • Sociology 365 Law and Society

    This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Candidates must hold at least a M.A. degree in Sociology or a related field. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

    The need for part-time faculty is greatest in the Fall and Spring semesters. The fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the spring term runs from late January through the end of May. On rare occasions, part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer session segments.

    COMPENSATION:

    All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Typical starting salaries for part-time faculty range from $5075 to approximately $6055 per semester for a three-unit class.

    The Department:

    The Department of Sociology is committed to develop students who possess a critical, ethical, and inclusive understanding of complex social phenomena. Our students examine and reflect upon social phenomena, including intersecting structures and processes that reproduce social inequalities, causes and consequences of collective and political action, and other social processes in various institutional contexts. Our faculty conducts academic research on a wide variety of areas of expertise, including race and ethnic relations, education, demography, gender and sexualities, crime and deviance, health and illness, economic sociology, political sociology, religion, and migration and globalization. We contribute to the public good by producing knowledge, engaging public policy, and by our commitment to social and scientific responsibility in the communities we study.
