Job Description

The newly established Gregus/Buczynski laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral candidate for an extramurally-funded position to support preclinical early stage drug discovery studies for chronic pain and addictive disorders. As significant sex differences exist in the mechanistic underpinnings of pain and addiction, we explore these processes in both males and females. Our laboratory employs a multi-omic approach of mass spectrometry, high-throughput cell-based assays and chemical biology in combination with in vivo microdialysis, behavioral pharmacology, molecular biology, and biochemistry to identify and validate novel druggable targets of Pain (Gregus) and Addiction (Buczynski). In addition, we are members of the Virginia Tech Center for Drug Discovery (VTCDD) ( https://www.vtcdd.science.vt.edu/ ) and have active collaborations with industry partners as well as investigators at Scripps Research, Penn, UC San Diego, UT Austin, UT Dallas, NCATS, NIMH, and several departments within Virginia Tech.

The candidate will design, perform and analyze experiments, then communicate results and interpretations to the laboratory as well as the broader scientific community through conferences and publications. We offer training in a variety of skills transferrable to industry or academic careers tailored toward mutual goals of the trainee and sponsor. Mentorship in scientific communication and successful generation of grant proposals and manuscripts will be provided through regular interaction. Our laboratory is a team-oriented, supportive, collegial and inclusive work environment.
