General Summary/Purpose:

Sr. Research Assistant Position will provide research assistance in ongoing research projects in cognitive neuroscience and learning theories in neurologically impaired populations, including those with severe developmental disorders (e.g., autism).

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities include research testing using behavioral methods, event-related brain potentials, and physiological monitoring, as well as stimulus production; video coding using qualitative data analysis software; and participant recruitment.
  • Other responsibilities include assistance with aspects of experimental design; literature search and review; assistance with manuscript preparation (including writing) and presentations; and maintenance of an organized and efficient filing system and data back-up.
  • This position will require independent thinking and self-directed management of all duties carried out on a daily basis.
  • This position is located in New York City (NY) and requires ability to travel within the city, using public transportation, to various work and research locations.
  • Job also requires occasional travel to Baltimore by train.
  • Adherence to strict COVID-19 prevention protocols is required until further notice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field required.
  • Two (2) years of related experiencerequired.
  • Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology or related field preferred.
  • Background in scientific/academic writing, significant computer skills (Microsoft Office, e-Prime, SPSS etc.) and experience working with low-functioning individuals on the autism spectrum are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with human psychological research and EEG.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
