Position Summary:

The Natural Resources Institute works at the crossroads of communities, natural resources and agriculture, helping individuals and communities make informed decisions that support the states rich land, water and mineral resources. The institute provides educational program and development assistance to faculty, agencies and other partners throughout Wisconsin, the region and beyond.

This academic staff position will assist the Marketing & Communications Unit in the institute by:
1. Designing a variety of educational and promotional publications such as booklets, newsletters, brochures, signs, posters and displays
2. Designing logos and other visual identity elements in support of branding initiatives
3. Designing and creating web images such as banners and navigation elements (basic coding knowledge and familiarity with content management systems a plus, especially WordPress)
4. Translating evaluation and research data into meaningful infographics
5. Collaborating with unit coordinator, editorial/design staff and project partners

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Required: Bachelors degree (fine arts or similar with emphasis in graphic design or web design)
Preferred: Candidates with education or experience in natural resources, agriculture or other natural science fields may be given preference if their portfolios are of similar quality to other candidates submissions.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum of three years of experience in print design/production and web design
2. Thorough knowledge of Mac-based desktop publishing and design software including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop (Adobe XD a plus for web design)
3. Demonstrated experience designing and producing professional, contemporay, full-color InDesign publications ready for commercial printing (includes designing long-form documents). Design/layout expectations include working with text, manipulating photos and image graphics and using all available tools such as style sheets, master page features and table features.
4. Demonstrated experience designing visually appealing, user-friendly web interfaces
5. Experience creating custom graphics and charts and communicating data visually
6. Desire and ability to work with a variety of clients or partners to plan, coordinate and deliver print publications, web sites and promotional collateral
7. Ability to work in a team setting and share project work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Seven years of experience in print design/production and web design.
2. Familiarity with Section 508 compliance and accessibility best practices
3. Personal or professional interest in natural resources, agriculture, conservation, food systems or other related topics
4. Working knowledge of WordPress
