At the main campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PCOM), the branch campus in Suwanee, Georgia (PCOM Georgia), and our newest location in Moultrie, Georgia (PCOM South Georgia), PCOM students learn to approach problem solving in a more professional, more team-oriented manner, which prepares them to work successfully in integrated healthcare settings with other health professionals.

About PCOM South Georgia

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) extended its commitment to the Southeast by establishing PCOM South Georgia, an additional teaching location in Moultrie, Georgia, which offers a full four-year medical program leading to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. In addition, a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences was added in August 2020. PCOM is a private, not-for-profit institution which trains professionals in the health and behavioral sciences fields. Joining PCOM Georgia in Suwanee in helping to meet the healthcare needs of the state, PCOM South Georgia focuses on educating physicians for the South Georgia region. The medical campus, which welcomed its inaugural class of medical students on August 12, 2019, has received accreditation from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

Position Description

PCOM South Georgia seeks a creative and innovative leader to assume the newly created position of Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator. The ideal candidate will support the new PCOM 2021 diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan to advance a diverse and inclusive community in South Georgia.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Diversity and Community Relations, this position will assist with building and supporting initiatives that promote diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. The position will interface with a wide variety of constituents in the college to assess needs that advance engagement and ownership of diversity on campus.

This position is based at PCOM South Georgia (Moultrie, Georgia).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Serve as one of the key leaders in implementing diversity and inclusion strategies and initiatives.
  • Oversee all South Georgia affiliate-level Diversity Councils, and Employee Resource Groups in order to provide partnership and maintain alignment with the overall mission, vision and metrics of the Office of Diversity and Community Relations.
  • Provide support for the development of a student led Cultural Competency Certificate program based on the Philadelphia model.
  • Develop internal and external partnerships with faculty, staff, students and the community.
  • Cross-collaborate amongst departments and the multiple PCOM locations.
  • Implement programs, trainings, and workshops to foster institutional awareness of, and commitment to, student, faculty, and staff diversity goals.
  • Collaborate with South Georgia Admissions staff on Pathway (Pipeline) Program offerings.
  • Serve in a support role as needed to the Summer Math and Science Academy program.
  • Create Pathway Programs with regional undergraduate institutions.
  • Represent the program at meetings and conferences, and networks with affiliated groups.
  • Collect data, conduct assessment, and prepare reports for diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Develop and strengthen local and regional campus-community partnerships.
  • Provide management and support for special projects.
  • Assist with orientation for new students and employees.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
*Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and pass a criminal background check. Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree in higher education, health administration, psychology, education, social work, human resources or other relevant field and/or non-profit experience is preferred.
> Experience
  • Four (4) years of related work experience in health administration, psychology, education, social work, public health, counseling or other relevant fields are required.
  • Three (3) years of program administration experience in higher education or a related field directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified is preferred.
  • Residency and familiarity with the South Georgia region is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of diversity in higher education, program development and implementation, training, ability to assess the educational impact of diversity programs.
  • Interest in and appreciation of, diversity, inclusion and equity with a strong record of working effectively with diverse populations including internal and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing diversity and inclusion programs and training in higher education.
  • Ability to develop learning outcomes assessment to assess the education impact of diversity initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement synchronous and asynchronous diversity, equity and inclusion training in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with all constituent groups across the campus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, publishing, website content management and social media.
  • Public speaking.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and to organize and plan work and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data for strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with a college/university environment.
  • Professionalism, flexibility and strong emotional intelligence.
  • Implementation of diversity training.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
