The Department of Physics at the University of Florida (UF) seeks a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Theoretical Astrophysics to begin on August 16, 2021. We are interested in applications from qualified candidates in all areas of Astrophysics, especially those whose research has the ability to exploit Artificial Intelligence and Big Data methods, and who would further broaden and/or deepen the research portfolio of the department.

Presently, the Theoretical Astrophysics group engages in a broad range of research activities in general relativity, galaxy evolution, black hole physics, the gravitational self-force problem, gravitational waves, multi-messenger astrophysics, planetary atmospheres, neutrino physics, quantum gravity, dark matter, and cosmology. The Theoretical Astrophysics faculty also maintain close ties with the Department of Astronomy and are heavily involved in gravitational wave research in conjunction with ongoing UF experimental interests in both the LIGO and LISA projects, as well as dark matter searches such as CDMS, ADMX, and ALPS. The University of Florida is home to HiPerGator ( ), one of the most powerful high-performance computers at a US public university. There is currently a campus-wide effort to expand the role of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education and research ( ), which includes a new NVIDIA GPU SuperPod ( ).

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related field, and postdoctoral research experience is expected. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body, while establishing a well-recognized research program, is essential.
