Position Summary
Dallas College is seeking an experienced, highly collaborative leader with a proven track record of enhancing academic quality, faculty excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success in a dynamic higher education environment. The Associate Dean, Special Programs is a forward-thinking advocate for student-centered success, holistic well-being, and a champion of intentional inclusion. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of Thriving Learning Communities and is responsible for providing effective leadership and administrative management for all student care and basic needs programs at Dallas College. This Dean’s position, will create a sense of belonging through student retention initiatives, fosters a strong partnership across Dallas College as well as provides comprehensive leadership and vision always utilizing sound assessment methods to ensure thorough data-driven decisions in advancing the College’s strategic priorities. The Associate Dean of Special Programs will provide the intentional vision and focus for several learning communities via community development, programming and academic support. The Associate Dean will be an innovative strategic thinker with an open and collaborative style of leadership and management that fosters teamwork, sustains a learning environment for students that is student-centric and fosters support.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Experience leading or managing major change initiatives
• Employ and deploy data-informed and results oriented initiatives
• Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges that arise as a result of Dallas College’s current transition
• An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities
• Experience working with student support programs (counseling, threat assessment, health & wellness programs, etc.)
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees
• Experience working with special populations with differing needs such as foster care, homeless, underrepresented males, first generation students, veterans, etc.
• Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably diverse and complex college/university with a proven track record of enhancing quality, excellence, institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success
• Ability to work effectively with ethnic, cultural, and socially and economically diverse student populations
• An appreciation of shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act and Veterans
• Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and programs; knowledge of student due process policies/procedures; knowledge and understanding of the current issues and trends in student affairs and student development
• Ability to identify, address, and collaborate with other academic leaders on solutions to barriers preventing a significant portion of our population from having a job that pays a living wage
• Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance student success units within the institution and with accrediting bodies • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community network related to career and academic requirements

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

• Masters in related field
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible in leadership
• Demonstrable administrative and leadership experience
• Current and valid Texas driver’s license required
• Experience working with TRIO, Title III and V
• Experience supervising and supervising staff and interns
• Experience working with and leading diverse student and staff populations
• Experience managing budgets
• Excellent interpersonal relations skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• The Associate Dean of Special Programs is responsible for the direct oversight and management of multicultural affairs personnel, program assessment, budget management, policy formation, logistics, and strategic planning.
• Implementation and leverage technology platforms such as Navigator, and Pieces to support the student care network.
• The Associate Dean of Special Programs oversees:
o Maxient
o Navigate
o CARE Team Member
o Senior Manager, Veterans
o Director, TRIO, Title III and Title V
o Senior Manager, Rising Star/Promise
o Senior Manager, Males Imperative
o Senior Manager, Foster Care
• Provides executive leadership to the organization to ensure work is of the highest quality and consistent with administrative and operational best practices; this could include reviewing and revising strategy, approach, and methodologies used within the organization to ensure the best integrated practices for special populations;
• Implementation and leverage technology platforms such as Salesforce, Navigate, and Pieces to support.
• Contribute to the organization’s research providing analysis and strategic direction to programmatic initiatives;
• Oversee the organization’s key community involvement and program areas;
• Assist with community-building strategies that are inclusive of ideas and participation of residents, community leaders and partners, business leaders, and stakeholders; and
• Strategic Thinking that is focused on student-centric long-term solutions; senses trends that might impact the organization’s future; able to develop an action-oriented plan; develops and communicates the roadmap for change and innovation required to achieve the organization’s vision; engages others to create common goals that support the organization’s vision.
• A strategic and data-informed decision-maker with strong assessment skills who is also able to think fast on their feet when necessary, teach and lead on assessment, set expectations across the department and devise and implement plans based on evidence;
• Cultivates and maintains campus and external relationships that lead to partnerships for students, convening, leading, and curating campus wide conversations about experiential learning theories, models, and activities
• Hold Individual and group engagement sessions for students interested in experiential learning, develop and facilitate innovative workshops, and manage, develop, and advertise the experiential learning information resources available.
• Collaborate with other departments and student services to effectively market experiential learning through outreach programming.
• Engages special population students and alumni on internship options and opportunities, including customized services for specific populations.
• Uses standard quantitative and qualitative assessments to help clients assess career goals.
