Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The College of Humanities and Sciences invites applicants to apply for the position of Post- Award Grants Specialist. The successful candidate for this position will provide post-award support for the College of Humanities and Sciences’ Sponsored Programs Office ( CHS - SPO ). This position’s duties include the financial reconciliation of assigned sponsored programs accounts, providing support to departmental fiscal managers on grant and contract administration, grant management responsibilities (e.g. award review and setup, prior approval requests, re-budgeting requests, and monitoring effort), maintaining sponsored program records, and closeout of sponsored program accounts. This position will also be responsible for the analysis of award agreements and contract documents to maintain compliance with local, state, university, and federal regulations. Further, this position will assist with ensuring records management practices and procedures are maintained for the CHS - SPO . As needed, this position will also support proposal submissions, including the development of sponsor budgets and applicable proposal forms. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with team members and faculty, as well as work independently.

Minimum Hiring Standards

-Bachelor’s degree and/or commensurate training and/or experience.
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .
-Knowledge and experience in working with grant and contract procedures.
-Knowledge of appropriate reconciliation and analysis procedures of fiscal records and reports.
- Open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation.
-Ability to work well under deadline pressures, exhibiting sound judgment without sacrificing accuracy or customer service.
-Ability to assist with preparing budgets, reconciliations, financial reports, and project closeouts as required.
-Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
-Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently using available resources
-Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate all project-related data regarding budgets and expenditures for each assigned project.
-Exceptional communication, organization skills, and interpersonal skills.
-Must have the ability to effectively and clearly answer inquiries of faculty, staff, and sponsors
-Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to research administration, including Uniform Guidance (2CFR200), and Cost Accounting Standards, as well as fiscal practices used by research institutions and sponsors
-Ability to read, interpret, and apply university and federal policies, procedures, laws, and regulations concerning the projects assigned.
-Excellent computer skills in the use of MS Office with emphasis on Excel spreadsheets and MS Word processing.

Preferred Hiring Standards

-Master’s degree and/or several years in research administration.
-Certified Research Administrator ( CRA )
