Student Affairs Coordinator - Manhattan Center

Social Work

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide academic counseling and professional advisement services to undergraduate and graduate students at the Manhattan Center and, as assigned, graduate students in the Online MSW program. Assess barriers to academic achievement and assist students in accessing appropriate services and supports to promote successful completion of degree programs. Further the department's priorities of academic excellence, responsiveness, student participation and diversity via a collaborative approach with administrators, staff, and faculty.

REPORTS TO: Director of Social Work Programs - Manhattan Center

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Provide early identification, intervention, advisement and assistance to students facing academic challenges.
  2. Assist students and faculty in accessing needed services from university departments such as Writing/Learning Center, Academic Affairs, Disability Support Services, Student Counseling Center, Student Financial Services, Registrar, and others.
  3. Provide orientation and advisement to students accepted into the school's provisional program.
  4. Develop academic contracts for students on academic probation, and monitor student progress, and provide academic counseling and assistance to support student success.
  5. Develop academic supports and deliver programming to support student academic success.
  6. Take initiative in the School's student affairs unit, under the supervision of the director of the M.S.W. program/director for student engagement and success; attend monthly group supervisory meetings, contribute to unit's efforts, and participate in case consultation.
  7. Develop and implement opportunities for student leadership, service learning, and professional development via advisement of student associations and coordination of ancillary educational programs.
  8. Collaborate with department colleagues to provide high quality services to students in all areas including inquiries, orientation, registration, field education, academic supports, continuing education and others.
  9. Create opportunities and provide encouragement to students to organize in their interests through such activities as facilitating undergraduate and graduate student associations and affinity groups and/or other student groups as interests emerge.
  10. Assist students with academic petitions and procedures for withdrawals and leaves of absence.
  11. Provide LMSW exam advisement and preparatory activities as assigned.
  12. Assist director with alumni engagement, recruitment, enrollment management, and other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
  2. Ability to network with appropriate university academic and administrative offices.
  3. Computer system proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, web conferencing).
  4. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with students, staff and faculty.
  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  6. Ability to multi-task while effectively planning and organizing work activities.
  7. Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment and reasoning in the performance of evolving job duties, while being an effective team member.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. M.S.W. (Masters in Social Work) required. L.M.S.W. preferred.
  2. Minimum of 3 years administrative or counseling experience are required.
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
