Enterprise Linux Administrator

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Utah Valley University (UVU) is taking on Digital Transformation (Dx) we are looking for an energetic Linux systems administrator with a minimum of two years' Linux server experience and can troubleshoot Java applications to join our team supporting UVU as we transform higher education.
In this position you will:
Be a member of the team developing our new deployment standards, critical team member supporting essential business applications along with Install, configure, and maintain operating efficiency and stability of your assigned systems. Ensuring the security and integrity of all systems and data and respond to outages and other issues. Automating software deployments, repetitive tasks, and other processes through incremental updates and developing automation tools. Maintaining and improving communication and collaboration enabling rapid product development relating to your assigned systems by serving as the liaison between the development, operations, and systems administration teams. Coordinating with stakeholders and department leadership to plan, design, and schedule the implementation of all software, hardware, and operating system updates. Developing and enhancing processes and technical documentation, creating back-up procedures, test plans, and reports. Performing application administration activities such as monitoring application performance, optimizing access, installing security updates, anticipating, and correcting system operational issues to avoid system outages/disruptions. Create more stable operating environments by continuously improving the infrastructure to be easily deployable and scalable. Troubleshoot issues. Maintain advanced knowledge of agile methodology, development processes, and programming languages.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field plus 3 years of experience related to the key roles and responsibilities OR any combination of education and experience totaling 7 years.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
Knowledge and experience managing Linux servers and services
Knowledge of container deployments (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes)
Knowledge of Java servlet containers (i.e. Tomcat, Weblogic, Glassfish)
Strong knowledge of industry-standard methods and best practices in systems administration
Knowledge of server hardware, virtualization, operating systems, and systems-level services
Knowledge of storage infrastructure, systems, and interfaces
Knowledge of multiple-tier application architecture
Knowledge of clustering, redundant systems, and high availability
Knowledge of networking, TCP/IP, and load balancing

Skills:
Skill in scripting and process documentation
Skill in problem-solving, analysis, ingenuity, and research
Skill in organizational planning, prioritization, and attention to detail
Skill in communication, training, mentoring, customer service, and interpersonal relations
Skill in project management and strategic planning

Abilities:
Strong ability to work as a team
Ability to clearly present technical concepts to a non-technical audience
Ability to follow complex and detailed procedures, and think logically to resolve issues and problems
Ability to work independently and proactively without direct supervision
Ability to learn and implement new technology
Ability to multi-task, handling multiple projects and issues efficiently through to completion
Ability to work with and/or lead a team.
Ability to apply organizational goals to daily work.


Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of containers technology
Knowledge of database integrations
Ability to debug Java applications


Physical Requirements:
