Dallas College, formerly known as Dallas County Community College District, has served the community for over 50 years operating as a district of seven independently accredited colleges. In 2020, those colleges united under a single name offering students a more streamlined, convenient experience. The seven original campuses live on as primary locations.
This position requires an actively involved, outward facing leader with a proven history of working with department heads and deans as well as the community to build partnerships and collaborations that contribute to new program and curriculum development.

Dallas College is seeking an experienced, highly collaborative leader with a proven track record of enhancing academic quality, faculty excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success in a dynamic higher education environment. The Vice Provost of Law & Public Service provides leadership for the planning, implementation and evaluation of credit hour programs in Law and Public Service programs offered at colleges within Dallas College. The Vice Provost serves as an advocate for all programs offered in these areas and strives to meet with needs of students, faculty, instructors, local business and industry. Additional responsibilities include assisting and advising the Provost in matters pertaining to professional and technical education, and actively engaging with community and employer partners for the purpose of creating new partnerships, responsive programs, and revenue opportunities.
This position reports to the Provost.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- A broad knowledge of the philosophy and mission of community colleges
- A history of progressively responsible experience as an academic administrator involving graduate or undergraduate programs, including responsibility for budget, personnel recruitment and evaluation
- Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance academic units within the institution and with accrediting bodies
- Knowledge of curriculum design and its application to sound academic management
- Ability and skill in the design and application of methods for the evaluation of faculty and academic staff
- Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of diversity
- An understanding of emerging technologies and the effective application of instructional technologies to enhance student learning
- Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably diverse and complex college/university with a proven track record of enhancing academic quality, faculty excellence, institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, and student success
- An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities
- An appreciation of shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Able to work collaboratively across institution to align course offerings and scheduling in order to promote greater student success and increased effectiveness and efficiencies
- Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to respond appropriately to issues in a dynamic rapidly changing educational/economic environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community network related to career and academic requirements
- Experience providing support for students (i.e., library, tutoring, and computing services)
- Ability to identify, address, and collaborate with other academic leaders on solutions to barriers preventing a significant portion of our population from having a job that pays a living wage
- Oversee Faculty and Academic managers, with direct
responsibility for academic excellence initiatives:
- SLO / Assessment
- Tutoring and supplemental academic support
- Faculty professional development
- Develop and maintain student pathways and degree maps within the Law & Public Service programs, ensuring students have the ability to take the courses and programs they need to reach economic security and success
- Performs other duties as assigned or delegated by the Provost
- Oversee each school-specific program and Faculty, Admin, or Staff member across geographic location, ensuring consistency of offerings to create a seamless student experience
- Work with Workforce & Advancement team to ensure student opportunities with community and workforce partners during their time in the program and after completion
- Coordinate with Academic Services team to provide academic support for students through access to tailored resources (e.g., library, tutoring)
- Ensure excellence of curriculum and offerings through benchmarking and assessment of school and community needs

- Master’s degree required (earned doctorate preferred) as confirmed by official transcripts
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible teaching, administrative and educational leadership experience
- Three (3) years upper level administrative/supervisory experience in a community college/higher education environment
- Demonstrated successful experience in strategic planning, fiscal management, resource allocation and personnel supervision
- Demonstrated distinguished record of teaching, scholarly publications, and/or creative accomplishments that exhibit commitment to academic excellence
- Previous experience in law enforcement, criminal law or other areas related to public safety
For more than 50 years, the Dallas County Community College District provided affordable, quality education to nearly 3 million people through seven independently accredited colleges in Dallas County.
In June 2020, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) approved the district’s plan to unify as a single institution, Dallas College. The new Dallas College encompasses Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland, which will now be referred to as campuses instead of colleges.
By approving a comprehensive application detailing concrete steps on how the district would consolidate its colleges to better serve students, SACSCOC also granted the district a “level change,” allowing what is now Dallas College to offer a Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education and Teaching, the first four-year degree offered by the institution.

The city is booming with an active downtown and every type of activity— film festivals, major sports, museums, shopping, restaurants, microbreweries, parks and outdoor activities. The area is abundant with major corporations and healthcare. The city was ranked 10th by Forbes Magazine for “Best Places for Business and Careers”. U.S. World News & Report ranked Dallas #18 in Best Places to Live and #9 in Best Places to Retire. The city suburbs offer close knit communities with easy access to the cities.
