Director, Education Development
Provide direction and oversight for educational programming across the four-year predoctoral curriculum that includes participation in the design, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of College of Dentistry courses. Provide leadership and promote collaboration between faculty and across departments to ensure a coordinated curriculum that reflects the competencies, assessment measures and outcomes necessary for a beginning dentist. Provide guidance and support to course directors and advanced education program directors in their efforts to create, implement, and measure new initiatives in accordance with the collegiate strategic plan, accreditation requirements and local aspirations. Provide educational expertise to Office for Education collegiate committees and help manage curricular work groups and threads. Develop and coordinate a teaching and learning faculty development program. Work closely with the Associate Dean for Education to respond to all surveys and reports associated with the Office; Coordinate and assist in all aspects of American Dental Association (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) site visit preparation including developing processes and tracking mechanisms for documentation. Recruit, Admit and Retain Prospective and Current Students for Programs, Major Departments or Colleges:
- Interview and evaluate applicants to the program.
- Represent Office for Education and deliver overview of predoctoral dental curriculum to prospective students.
- Represent educational programs and the College of Dentistry to professional groups as appropriate.
- Direct course management site development and standardization based on learning and teaching best practices.
- Oversee annual New Resident Orientation to including design, plan, implementation and evaluation of programming.
- Oversee White Coat Ceremony including management of all logistics with support from Office for Education secretary.
Academic Standards and Curricular Policies:
- Propose, vet, and implement collegiate policies, guidelines and protocols to support faculty teaching and student learning and provide information to faculty, staff and students regarding status of changes in curriculum policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate program materials. Update and incorporate curricular changes into external or internal documents.
- Coordinate and monitor existing and new curricular activities for the College of Dentistry.
- Consult with faculty and student questions regarding curriculum policies and procedures.
- Assist and work directly with the Associate Dean for Education in support of all aspects of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements, documentation, reporting procedures.
- Compile, assemble and support responses to all surveys associated with the office, including but not limited to the biannual ADA Survey of Dental Curriculum and assemble supporting documentation.
- Oversee project management process for accreditation site visit and direct all aspects of manuscript editing, determination and collection of appropriate documentation for standards, production and printing, including but not limited to consultation with Educational Media office on cover design and page layout for predoctoral and advanced education programs self-study documents.
- Serve as collegiate liaison for the Associate Dean for Education to CODA as requested
Academic Program Management (Planning, Designing, Integrating, and Evaluating Curriculum):
- Provide educational expertise to Office for Education collegiate committees (Curriculum, Clerkship Directors, and Advanced Education Program Directors).
- Serve as education manager for curricular work groups to ensure alignment with College of Dentistry strategic plan and to help move the education vision forward.
- Identify evolving expectations, best practices and opportunities in dental education to advise Associate Dean for Education on trends, priorities and need for new educational initiatives.
- Create, implement, and measure new initiatives in accordance with the collegiate strategic plan, accreditation requirements and local aspirations.
- Course Evaluation
- Oversee all aspects of Collegiate electronic course evaluation procedures to ensure process meets University and other compliance requirements as well as ensure evaluation system is working appropriately.
- Serve as educational liaison to department DEOs, faculty and staff regarding administration of evaluation instrument, and analysis and dissemination of results.
- Analyze results of evaluations and develop collegiate recommendations for improvement.
- Teaching & Learning Development
- Develop and oversee educational consult system to provide appropriate guidance, resources and support to course directors and advanced education program directors in their teaching efforts.
- Oversee and assess online learning and teaching effectiveness and develop collegiate best practices.
- Develop and direct education innovation program for faculty to share work, educational scholarship and ideas to promote a culture of creativity and collaboration.
- Develop, direct, and facilitate a teaching and learning faculty development program.
- Curriculum Management/Mapping Program
- Oversee curriculum mapping including expansion to micro levels to identify topical strands across courses, years, and curriculum; produce mapping reports and provide curricular recommendations based on gap analysis, needs assessment and reviews.
- Supervise and manage communications with vendor to ensure a robust electronic mapping program that meets the needs of the College.
- Manage and monitor accuracy and relevance of all materials submitted into the curriculum management mapping program.
- Provide direct guidance to faculty and staff for current materials reported in the electronic mapping program.
- Program Evaluation, Assessment and Continual Curricular Improvement Activities
- Oversee and monitor curriculum threads and facilitate/coordinate course directors across the curriculum to increase awareness and enhance threads.
- Collect and analyze multiple data points to identify areas of improvement with current curriculum and provide recommendations based on evidence.
- Investigate new teaching methodologies, systems, and technology to provide quality instruction.
- Monitor curricular activities, develop metrics and monitor outcomes of educational programming for continuous curriculum improvement for the College of Dentistry.
- Serve as an educational consultant for the development and design of academic program materials to meet collegiate goals, including but not limited to learning objectives and outcomes measures.
- Serve as project manager with participating faculty, staff, students, and external participants.
Budget Oversight and Management:
- Direct fiscal planning including budget proposal preparations, documentation and monitoring of educational expenditures.
- Provide functional supervision to the Office for Education Secretary IV.

Salary: $60,649 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 6A)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Master’s Degree in Education, or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in higher education including the following skillsets:
- Curriculum development;
- Program development and evaluation;
- Instructional design.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff and students.
- Masters in Medical Education or equivalent is desirable.
- Experience working in health profession education environment is desirable.
- Experience working in administration is desirable.
